Anyone have difficulty fitting in their 1st gen 2.4l starter motor? My previous OEM was a Denso. Other brands have a higher/taller profile. Notice the difference. Was it a major hassle getting in the larger starter?

Will fit without issue. The difference is due to cold climate which requires a larger solenoid IIRC.

I'd pull it and just rebuild it.

Not a 2.4 but from my old 3.4 (they're easy to uninstall/install) and only cost a few bucks in parts.

Wish I could. Can’t. Will ask my garage guy that since he’s gonna take it out for possibly new starter, then simply take the front cover off, take out the plunger and visually check condition of the contacts. If obviously crappy, ask him to replace them. Mine 1 clicks which I understand means it’s most likely not a bad solenoid. I also doubt it’s the clutch since it’s only about 3 years old.

I'd get a single click no start, vehicle had +260k miles on it, and the starter was the original.

Just buy a kit and hand it to your garage guy.

Where you located anyway? I'll help you swap it here at my place.

San Diego. I reside in my truck, therefore, time is a factor. No time to order online. Chances are the contacts can be had locally, not sure if a rebuild kit can be. I’ll have to talk with my garage guy about if he’ll bench it, he should I would think. Also, he’ll no doubt tell me that it’ll be my gamble if I choose just the contacts replacement. I’ll be bringing it into him this Tuesday.
