Challenge Coins

Anyone else here collect these things?

Never heard of them, what are they?

 

Let me get back with ya. I don't have as many as you but I do have some AMMO coins.

 

I've got a bunch at home from my days -- sitting in a coin box... my favorite is from SMA Jack Tilley... got it in 03 when he came to Ft. Huachuca... I was happy.

 

The first pic, close to the bottom is the old (I believe) ammo coin, I.Y.A.A.Y.A.S. It is from the 898th Munitions Squadron.

 

I have a few odd ones, most of them are base coins. Some of the neat ones are 99th ground combat squadron, Antiterrorism Expert, and Nuclear Munitions.

 

Well that is a long story in itself and I am sure some of the servicemen here will go into more detail.
Basically they are coins of military bases, all branches, some are divisions, squadrons, ranks, medals etc.
They also use to make the coins for other items, NRA had them for awhile, and some for special places in the U.S.

 

lol... me too with the free drinks... You're right about the Army way of playing... based on the rank of the coin presenter... my SMA coin carried me pretty far...

(and it probably WAS a condom ring...)

 

I have four of the coins Awarded to me while I was in the service. Yes I have been challenged. Should have seen the look on his face when I dropped my SF coin over his (LEG) unit coin. I drink for free that nite.

 

Yep, show up at any establishment where AMMO troops are and slap down your coin. If there is someone there without, he's buying you a drink. But if'n you slap and everyone else has one then guess what, you're buying a round for the whole place! I carry mine everywhere.

 

I have a few of them. Not enough for a display rack.

 

I have collected many of them, being an AF Cop for 22 yrs. I would love to play by the Army rules... I have an Air Force 1 coin given by President Clinton in 2000 during the G-8 summit in Okinawa. That coin trumps all...

 

May I also add that coins are usually come by two ways. You are either in the unit designated, and must carry it for Espirit de Corp of that unit. Or you are awarded the coin from someone of the unit of the coin in question for going above and beyond. I have been coin challenged during a time out of a softball game on the pitchers mound, as always I had a coin epoxied to the tongue of my cleats. That way I always had a coin with me during football and softball games. With golf I use it as an extra ball mark.

i dont have any challege coins, but i do have some of these...

 

Man i havent seen pogs in the longest time But i do have a challenge coin a cpl that use to work at my workcenter gave me a Mals-11 devilfish coin really cool.

 

i have a whole slew of those things, i got em so many times and most of the time they meant nothing to me so i just gave them away.
