Pop N Lock + Hose Clamp. DTRL, AFE drop-In Dry filter, 6-1/2" Replacement Speakers, JVC HD Radio, Sam's club variety Floor mats (cheap but effective), Chrome Exhaust tip, Bed Mat from ol' Ford Ranger. As of 3/25/2020, the Odometer just turned 70K.
I am about to purchase a 2008 4-cyl 4x4 Tacoma cab with SR5 #2 package and with a Aluminum wheels for $22,900 + Tag+ Ttile + Tax as the dealer quoted me over the phone. It also has the floor mats included as well as bed mat and spare tire lock.

What the dealer quoted (read off of the dealer invoice) as a BASE starting price was about $840 lower than shown in the KBB. Salesman did not know why the KBB and NADA showed higher amount. He said it could be the KBB's and NADA included the Dealer holdbacks and the advertising fees.

Any way, I would appreciate any comments from anyone in the East (PA, NJ, DE, MD) area who have purchased a 2008 similarly equipped Taco.

    Thanks

    Go to Cars.com.

They will show you invoice prices as well as a "smart" price. You can put in the exact options of the vehicle you want. The smart price is a number you can expect to negotiate too.

I bought mine at about $500 cheaper than the smart price it showed, but is was an 07 that the dealer was looking to get rid of because he had a lot of 08's on the lot already.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the recommendation. I think I will do that search just to confirm the dealer's base price number.

Would it be reasonable to expect to pay the DEALER INVOICE price on these Tacomas? I have purchased several new cars via internet at Dealer Invoice, but never a Toyota turcks. I hear that the Toyota dealers do not typically want to sell these hot selling trucks at the Internet pricing (invoice)...

Yea your probably not going to to get invoice pricing. Supposedly the Tacomas dont have a ton of markup in them...only a few thousand to play with, especially with an 08. Go to the dealers website and see if they have any incentives. I know in Texas the 08's have a $500 discount going.

I got my truck a week ago and able to pay $80 above the Dealer's invoice. My truck is a 08 Prerunner Doule Cab (w. TRD FE & TO All-weather floor mats options). The invoice is $24,333 and I got it for $24,413; so it is posible to get it very close to the invoice cost. :D

I did my homework on Edmunds.com and request quotes from 4 different dealers in the Santa Barbara, CA. and choose the one that most fit my request and go there to deal with them. Also, I ask the Dealer manager to show me the actual invoice price first before dealing.

I love this truck so far.

It is somewhat Ironic the way that people absolutely rave about this wonderful product yet we all try and see how good of a deal we can get on it.

That actually sounds like a decent price. My PreRunner was only a couple thousand shy of that...

I agree. I am not in the habit of giving money away.

So far none of you have responded to why the KBB's and Edmund's and NADA's base invoice price was off by about $840 than what the salesmand read off of his invoice.

Could it be that the Invoice base price on KBB's, Edmund's, and NADA include Dealer holdback and Advertising cost?

Also, this has been a pet peeve of mine on this issue for a long time. Perhaps you guys can shed your opinions on the issue. It's the destination charges on vehicles, not just on Tacoma's. Why does it get added to the cost of the vehicle for the purpose of sales tax calculation? Destination charges, to me, is nothing more than deliveries. Does one normally pay sales tax on deliveries???

Obviously this does not apply to those residents like, Texas or Delaware where they have NO SALES Tax. You lucky dawgs !!

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm....

The "Smart Price" on 2008 4x4 4-cyl access cab was substantially higher than what the salesman blabbered on the phone....

I would think the difference would be destination charges. Places like NADA and KBB probably dont take into account the exact end destination. I know in Texas every Tacoma goes to a central location (Gulf Coast) and gets processed from there. I think the destination charges vary from that location to the dealership. I would think KBB and NADA would probably get an average or swagged destination charge based on the general area, but a specific dealer's destination charge might be more or less based on his location.

In Texas we still pay sales taxes. Its usually around 6% or so.

Also what is the dealer doing quoting invoice pricing??? Sounds like he might be cutting his own throat.

I paid sales tax on my Tacoma in Texas. I don't know where the idea that we don't pay sales tax came from. Unless it was confused with our lack of a state income tax.

I didn't catch that the destination charge was figured in before tax. I agree, that's not right.

$24,077 down from $24,395 isn't a big jump. I would have driven it down more. I wouldn't have offered over $23,800 OTD.

If they don't take it, then they REALLY don't care to make a deal.

As for the Texas thing - we don't have state income tax, but our property tax is rape job. :(

You are right, I was confused the State income tax with the Sales Tax. SO the only state that does NOT have sales tax in the East Coast is Delaware. Unfortunately, when I register in PA, then they nail me with the Sales tax...

Either way the gov't get you going and coming with the sates tax crap !!

However, since I am only 45 min. from Delaware, I do all my other major purchases from DE, ie) refrigerators, Plasma TV's etc. he-he-he!!

I'll see your Texas property tax rape and raise you a Jersey property tax rape job sans lube. "Worst property taxes in the nation" I believe we have held that one for over 15 years. :(

But cheapest GAS in the country, to offset the high property tax, just to (somewhat) offset the disadvantage, if I might add.....

BTW, where did you get your Taco? Dealerships in Philly area do not seem to want to deal INVOICE pricing. I may have to check out some Neuw Jorsey dealers....

Toyota of Vineland. Ask for Steve Barber Tell him Adam with the Speedway Blue Manual sent you. He should remember, and know that you are looking for invoce price with no BS games.

I bought my 04 there also. Both trucks at invoice price. I forget off the top of my head exactly what invoice was, but I have it somewhere. If I get a chance I'll look it up for you tomorrow.
