I noticed that my side steps are bolted onto the actual body of my truck and when i take them off, will there be rust issues? or water leaks?

Or when i take them off should i get that automotive rubber caulk and fill or block the bolt holes.

I would hope that it was painted well enough before the steps were added and rust shouldn't be an issue, however if they've rubbed some to bare metal its possible.

I'd go ahead with some type of sealant to plug the holes for sure. touch up paint, silicone, you name it.

Do you think it would have some type of protectant(like a foam cushion thing) between the truck and the anchor for the side steps? But i will do the silicone sealant for sure no matter what
