can i go off roading with my o8 taco

i have a 08 taco trd off road . but its not 4wd can i still go offroading with it is it bad

 

That is a very capable truck. Enjoy. You will be impressed with it.
I leave mine in 2wd to have fun and 4wd when I must.

It's more fun to offroad in 2wd. Just make sure you bring a buddy with a 4x4 and a tow strap...

Don't go alone, tread lightly/legally, have a tow strap (without hooks) with you.

Exactly. I'd also suggest getting some A/Ts or M/Ts and a rear locker if you plan on wheeling.

M/T = mud terrain
A/T = all terrains

Since I know very little about off roading in general, I ask the following: In the last couple days I've seen people say NOT to get tow straps with hooks. Why?

 

Locks the wheels together thereby allowing both wheels to spin uniformly.

The 'Off Road' has the locker -- the Sport does not.

 

ok so what about the wraps y not with hooks

 

because if the strap breaks you have a metal tow hook that was attached to a rope that was under 4000+ lbs of force that is now a projectile.

derekabraham, 05TacoTRD, and Chris4x4 are three of our members that I can think of off the top of my head that do a lot of wheeling and they all have prerunners just like yours. While you won't be able to go some places that 4x4s can, a prerunner with the locker is still a very capable rig!

 

Just make friends with a 4x4 and your truck can go anywhere they can
