    Alright guys...

It's that time. Time for me to get a DSLR. Looking to spend between 600-800, or less if you have a good suggestion.

Looking for something easy to use, but still shoots good quality photos. Something that has some good features, that with time I'll be able to use and understand. The option to shoot video would be cool, but not really NEEDED. Canon or Nikon, I really don't care. It's just a name to me.

My background: Basically nothing. Just point and shoot digitals, and a little old 35mm and pinhole work.

    Anything here? Future Shop (Canada)

Any stores like Best Buy that I could check out? I'm taking a trip to NW Washington beginning of May.

    Thanks all :)

I'm not the one to answer but I was in your position about 8 months ago. I don't know a whole lot about cameras, but I wanted a good DSLR. I ended up with a Canon XSI bundle that included an extra lens, memory card, small case a tripod and a few other items. That camera was discontinued but still had really good reviews, I got all that for around $800. It does not have video though. If the D3100 was available at the time I probaly would have gone with it. It looks like a really nice camera with video. But I would listen to some of the guys here who know more what their talking about.

    Good Luck!

go to best buy and try them all out. Go through the menus and see how they feel in your hands because they well all take equally good photos in the right hands (canon, nikon, sony, etc).

    Not enough.
I got my d3000 from sears on a clearance for $250 about 4 months back. It is my first dslr and I like it. Simple manual menus to use.

Remember that this game is all about lenses.

If you search craigslist in your area, I'm sure you can find a great package deal for a D90 or any other cameras really.

Save a couple hundred more for a 60D - Better camera than the T3 Model, and they are so close in cost.

like gitmo said, you could probably find a used d90 for about 600-700, atleast here. Im not really sure what the prices for dslr's are up in canada. I have also read that the d5100 is pretty good(if you are willing to spend a little more than your budget) although i havent really gone into in depth reading.

Like others have said, go try one out in store, personally i tried a canon then nikon and i felt nikon was so much easier to use than the canon, but you may be different
