Grinding the brake caliper

I am grinding my brake caliper bracket on wednesday. i will be shaving approx 5 mm off of the piece and I want to know if there is a fluid line that runs through that piece i need to be careful of.

im talking about the elevated piece that comes out and over like a wide n shaped piece.

so if anyone would give me any advice that would be cool.

i picked up a rapid metal removal file today and im just going to do it myself. i am only grinding the bracket. no where near any fluid

lol i need to do it to fit my wheels.... im not actually grinding the caliper.... just a piece of cast iron.

 

can you get me a picture of which peice you are talking about? i have ground calipers in the past and brackets for people that wanted 12" wheels on newer model chevy's and i also bought a tacoma that someone ground the calipers too far before too.

 

just buy wheelers 1/4" spacers

 

as far as a picture....
i have attached it.
you can see where the arrow is pointed and it looks orange. exactly the same piece total chaos shaves for the long travel kit.

and for wheel spacers.... with the spacers i only get 3 1/2 hand turns on the lug so they wont put the wheels on....

 

No fluid running thru that piece, just a brace for the caliper ears. I would think you could get away with 5 mm.

Give Total Chaos a call and see what they say??. Apparently they have done it in the past and no adverse effects.

Personally, I wouldn't grind anything on the caliper itself. I would search out longer studs and spacers.

 

the dealership has studs that are 1/4" longer. do u think that will do the trick with 5mm spacers?

 

I ground down the caliper carrier when I put my wheels on with no problems since. It's a pretty stout part, I would'nt worry about it.

 

yeah man i am going with the caliper grind. i just spoke to my buddy who owns an auto shop and said extended studs are deadly. he doesnt recommend either but because im a friend if he were to lean towards one it would be the caliper.....

plus extended studs x 10 = $80 + 120 in labor to put them in.

grinding the caliper = my hands and a file + no spacer =

when my brakes fail because of my modifications i will be humble but until then im gonna remain a champ!

 

Any Update on this Shemicals?? I'm running into the same prob with the Pro Comp Series 52 Rock Crawlers I bought. I even stuck a spare 5mm spacer I have on there and it still hits the caliber bracket. Its hard to tell how much clearance I need tho because I cant see everything when the wheel is on there.
