Went to 2 dealers & took the THIRD offer. First said could not go that cheap - said bye & dealer said WAIT - see what I can do & gave me the deal I wanted. Have put @ $2600. in upgrades, but still way cheaper than a TRD & almost as cool! NEVER take first deal. Be ready to walk. Then, after you get the deal you want - make em throw in something (fog lights). They are desperate - esp. before Jan 1st. Dec. 31st should be a good day to bargian. Also shop for best interest rate if financing - got 2.9% for 60.....

Could be, but you need more info and you should go to (or get e-quotes) from at least two other dealers.
Go here and start with TMV, then drill down to see the itemized dealer costs for your vehicle.
    http://www.edmunds.com/
You can also use Consumer Reports' service for more info but it costs $14.00 for a dealer cost report for one vehicle.

I had one dealer here, that specializes in internet sales, give me a copy of the actual invoice. It was the most detailed of these three. The other dealers did not offer to show me this.

There are volume "rewards" that the dealers receive that we, as consumers will never know, but if you can get close to the known, true invoice you've done well.

Here's a breakdown of what the dealer emailed me; t.m.f $735.00, del. fee $800.00, base hold back $475.00, p.i.o. $115.00 & 1% financial reserve msrp $235.00. With the exception of options & delivery fee nothing else is added to the msrp. I'm not sure what the hld back, pio & financial reserve prices are. Quote is $500.00 above invoice. I did get a quote from another dealer a few hundred miles away, it was a little higher.

Yeah, that looks like the detailed breakout.
For holdback def. go to the Edmunds link that I posted and find the detailed explanation.
Start at TMV, (True Market Value) to find the hotlink to holdback definition.

Forgot to mention that CR will give you a Bottom Line Price as a negotiation starting point and advice on buying.
    I found it useful.
    https://ec.consumerreports.org/ec/aps/order.htm?INTKEY=nc5-nchome

If you really want to negotiate hard, they sweat when they know that you are talking to another dealer. In your case, it sounds like you have a preferred dealer simply because of distance.
If your preferred dealer knows that you want to buy there, your position is weakened.
You have to be prepared to walk out....even if it's only to regroup/catch your breath for a few hours.
    I did this.
When my preferred dealer learned that I was driving to another dealer, I started receiving calls.
The settled-on price from my preferred dealer actually ocurred on the phone while I was driving to the other dealer.

The reason i have as you say a preferred dealer is this dealer is less than an hours drive from my location. The other dealer is 300 mil. & the prices are real close. So i think i wou ld rather deal with a staff that is close to my home for any issues i have. You go 300 mi away to buy then try to get any issues resolved the selling dealer is more likely to take care of you. Of course it all is about what works out best for the buyer. Everyone's situation is different. But for $100.00 a dealer closer is best for me.

i bought my tacoma this past monday.

09 double cab, 4x4 long bed, sr5 package with jbl audio system and blue tooth, tow package, out the door was 31,228. Also got him to throw in free all weather floor mats. I think i got a good deal because previous quote was for similar tacoma but without JBL audio system, tow package and blue tooth for only 228 less! so i only had to pay 228 more for the JBL audio system, tow package, blue tooth and free all weather floor mats. Financed 2.9 % for 36 months. I put 10K down

    What you guys think?

Just got our 2009 TRD Offroad (4x2) DC, tow package, and mats for 27600 OTD. Took me almost walking out the door 4 times and about 6 hours but if you squeeze them they usually fold.
