Feeler: interior wood trim for 2nd gens -- any interest?

Ok, so with my leather interior now installed (check out the Katzkin group buy thread if you haven't already) I need a new way to distract myself from my knee injury, upcoming surgery, and months of rehab.

This may sound a little over-the-top for most people here, but out of sheer boredom I'm thinking about designing a set of router jigs to make interior wood trim panels for 2nd gen Tacomas. My idea so far is to make wood panels that replace the plastic power window control panels, and another wood panel to replace the climate control panel. And by wood, I'm talking any number of species of exotic hardwoods with a hard plastic-like finish like you would see in luxury car applications.

I was initially going to just try to make a one-off set for my truck, but then it occurred to me that there may be enough of a market to warrant making jigs to make additional sets. I'm not looking to make a business out of it or anything, just want to see if anyone out there might be interested.

I used to be a professional cabinetmaker and woodcarver, so in case you have doubts, I do know what I am doing.

I'd sorta like a rosewood laminated shift knob , numbers perhaps routered small and unfilled. It would match a few pistol grips on some S&W psitols I have, and my truck is red too. Not a vivid one though , just good basic color tones.

I had in mind just the window control panels, climate control panel, and maybe the cambered panel around the shifter (for automatics) just as a couple of wood accents throughout the cab. I think it might look good with my particular interior scheme... but I dunno.

I really have no idea. Depends on how much time/labor is involved and cost of materials. I'd guess $100-150 ballpark??

 

Sounds about fair to me. I've always thought about doing something like this but lack wood skills. Make sure to post pics if you do make some.

 

I'm not a fan of woodgrain trim interiors unless its in a big-ass luxury car. I think the Tacoma has too much sportiness to it to go that route. If you're going to go make something new why not some nice brushed aluminum, carbon fiber, or even piano black painted trim? Something like that has more of a place in these trucks....IMO.
