I'm betting the black one would look good on the blue truck

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
not to mention that the sport black grille would be in the black sand pearl paint and not match any other black on ur truck...its a big reason i dont like the BSP. any black mods wont match the truck color...

You should be able to go to your local auto paint supply store and have them mix you up a spray bomb in what ever color you want. Then take your chrome grill and scuff it with a scotchbrite pad and prime then paint. Thats what I did to mine, it turned out great.

yeah u no i thought about that......... only problem is that im not a paint inclined person. i no the basics and all but making the paint stay and not chip or scratch on the grille. i no to scuff it up and all but ive found that its not very durable when ever i paint sumthin like that..................

The base model tacomas come with a black un-painted grill. It's just a regualr matte black. you could go to the dealer and see how much one of those cost. also, painting the grille would be really easy. sand it, prime it, coat it a couple times

CRAP! That is exactly what I wanted to do (except chrome edge and chrome lettering)...

I would pay some one to make me one of those. I just don't have time.

This is what I am talking about...

Is it possible just to go out and buy some black steel mesh and cut it to fit the grill? it seems like it would be pretty easy to just cut the center out of the original, then cut a mesh shape to fit in the center, then just take off the grill and attach it to the back. it seems easy and cheap. is there a reason this hasn't been done? is there a reason i should pay $200 bucks for a little piece of mesh screen thats pre-cut for my truck?

The kicker in all of this is cutting out the center slats in the original grill. They leave gaping holes on either side of the grill. You really need bondo or fiberglass or something to fill in the holes. Having no experience with either - I am hesitant to do this myself...

ooooh, i was wondering what he meant when he said he used a sawsall and had to fill in. So is there any way to cut the grille so that you dont have that problem? He said something about using a disk saw and not having to fill in. does that make sense to anyone?

The only thing I can think is that he didn't make the cut even like he had hoped.

When you cut out the oem grill you are left with 4 holes on the inside. Rich had to fill the holes, I have seen it in person he did an outstanding job. He had a body shop spry the BSP, but he did all the body work himself.

Yeah, I talked to him on CT. If he decides to sell that grill, I am going to snatch it. :)

I have a quick question as long as we are on the topic of grilles... how do you get the toyota emblem out of the grille? it looks like its encased in there pretty good. i assume a hair dryer to soften the adhesive but then do you just pry it out or is there a better way?

I heated mine on the RAV4 up and pushed it out from the back with a #1 flatblade screwdriver. We had a wasp that was stuck in there. He flew in front of my wife. That wasn't very smart.
    ;)
