    Hi everyone,

Just bought a bran new Tacoma 2011 few weeks ago with access cab, auto trans, and 4 cyl 2.7 L. Last week-end when I was driving from Quebec City to Montreal I eard a kind of a whissle sound that seems to come from around the winsheeld. I was driving at 100km/h (55m/h) and there was a strong wind coming from a front angle and it was sunny. I guess it could be related to the shape of the opening in the truck, I don't know, I will ask my dealer if toyota has eard about it and if there is a solution for this or if it is something that we have to leave with, I guess nothing is perfect in this world.

    Regards to all,

    Claude,

So my dealer call ,Lebeau vitre d'auto, here in montreal, the guy who re-install my windshield told me that at the top of the windshield it was NO silicon there!!! So he put some silicone everywhere, and seal it. So this week-end i will go on the road to test it. Swear that he fix the problem......

Thanks Freezb, let us know if you fix the problem with the silicon, I'm going to see the dealer about it?

Freezb, this is exactly the same sound I got, but it only happened when there was a strong win. Hope it is just the sealing of the winshield. Let us know if the new silicon does the job.

    Thanks,

    Claude Lechasseur

So, I totally found this fucking whistle today. I had about 600mi of headwinds between Utah and Northern AZ to listen to it lmao. Long story short, it's the door seals on driver/pass. Right where the top ofit meets the top of the windshield section. I covered it with my hand and pulled in on it, cut the noise by well over 50%. I suspect it's leaking behind the rubber seal so I'm going to silicon it and see if it goes away. Seriously these winds must have been like 70mph themselves, plus me going into it about 75mph avg... you could actually see the door pulling apart up there away from the body. Once I isolated that I realized the sound was just echoing from both sides making it very convincingly seem to be coming from near the top center of the windshield. So, now that I know the problem area, time to attack that bitch

I had that super annoying squealing sound in my 2007 TRD off road access cab, except mine would squeal constantly at 115km/h into a fairly strong headwind and I could change the tone of the sound by pressing on the top of the windshield near the rearview mirror. After a couple ride alongs with a service tech they booked me in for a windshield reinstall at crystal glass, covered by warranty. When that was done I picked up my truck from crystal glass and was half way home when I noticed half a dozen dents in my hood all within 6 inches of the windshield, needless to say I was beyond pissed (truck was about one month old at that point). Crystal glass was already closed for the weekend by the time I noticed so I called the toyota dealership to tell them what crystal glass did to my truck. At first the morons at crystal glass said they didn't know how it happened and it wasn't them that caused the damage, so I replied by saying "I didn't even book the appointment with you, the toyota dealership did so you can talk to them". Crystal glass ended up paying to fix my hood (about $600 if I remember correctly), but I wouldn't let them touch anything of mine again.

    Thanks FreezeB,

I went to the dealer yesterday and they do not mind to redo the seal at the Lebeau shop. But he kind of say that I should think about it before removing the original seal. Anyway, in my case, even if it seems to happen only during strong cross win, I will have my winsheild seal redone and I have a few year to see if it is OK next time I drive on the highway with strong crosswin. Desapointed about the Toyota manufacturing quality, hope that's all with my new little truck.

Thank you for sharing good information

    Good luck,

    Claude,

Thanks again Freezb, I've already talked to the dealer here in Hull where I bought it and it seems that they would do the re-seiling at Lebeau under warrenty. So I will have it done and see in the future if it is OK on the highway with strong crosswin.

    Untill Next Time

Same thing has happened to me dude, but it was front differential that failed and they tried telling me that my lift caused the problem which void's the warranty so I kept going back several times and than it came down to me just parking my truck in the service bay and sitting in until they called the cops, which i the proceded to call the news which than got my truck fix.

All in all I have come to the conclusion that Toyota's are great vehicles, but ther customer services suck's big time. Toyota doesnt want to warranty vehicles cuz it drags their ratings down which will knock them out of the top spot for most realiable vehicle.

It's cause of people like you that things don't get done in this country. . .The guys got a brand new truck for christs sake. . .Oh yeah, no problem I just dropped 33k on a new truck and it sounds like a kazo when I drive it - what does that have to do with being a truck? I've had 6 trucks, never had that problem. Give me break - some people have expectations.

Yup, the 05 AC I bought in February and it is whistling like a mo fo... Dropped it off to the dealer on Saturday to see if they can or are willing to fix it. I know it is on my dime so I am hoping they are able to fix it quickly. If this doesn't work I guess I am going to try and take it to a glass shop to see if they can make the repair. Out here in the panhandle of Texas the wind is constantly blowing 40+ and at 70 mph (speed limit)the kazoo sound can get outrageous.

Click the link to hear how bad this gets...

Have not been in this thread in a while thought I would report in. It seems most people read the first post then jump in with a comment without reading through to see what all has been addressed.

At any rate let me explain AGAIN. The speed driven was not the issue. Wind over the windshield was. So if the wind was blowing 25 mph I could drive 60 and would get the LOUD kazoo noise. People keep saying holy cow 90 mph that's unreasonable. No it was simply the speed I drove to clearly show the service tech the problem. I had a windshield company come to my house and the te h said he has seen hundreds of toyotas with this problem and Toyota sticks their head in the sand about it. He removed my windshield and replaced the seal with new sealant and put the windshield back in. Noise is gone.

Upon inspecting the original seal you can easily see there is almost no sealant on it. So the issue is Toyota quality control is not doing their job and have been haphazardly throwing these windshields in with almost no sealant then telling the consumer to f off that there is no problem.

I side with you on that.... you will spend more time trying to fix such a small issue... go buy some silicone and seal it yourself.... it's like 30 bucks at most instead of trying to look like the d-bag that went to court for a defect you could have fixed your self for like 30 bucks.... seriously??..... just because you bought it new doesn't mean you are getting perfection....

Different craftmanship goes into a lexus than a toyota bud... i'm sure he was referencing the luxury vs standard....

Hell I know all about these trucks... They have a rough ride and a ton of wind noise but it's not a damn luxury sedan... this is actually one of the roughest riding trucks I have ever driven and out of all the trucks I have owned this is the roughest and loudest one I have owned minus the jeep that I owned that was a soft top... i have owned a chevy, a ford, a nissan all trucks and they were a lot more quite and smoother than the tacoma.... if you want a petite and silent ride then go pay the extra coin and get your luxury style....

Oh yeah... and one more thing.... IT'S A TRUCK!!!!!!

    correction:
its people like me who built this country. motivated, responsible, law-abiding people. people who dont expect the world for nothing.if you want a vehicle that is perfectly quiet and rides like your floating on air, buy a cadillac (and pay 50,000 for it). otherwise spend the 30,000 on a TRUCK and deal with the little things that come with owning a TRUCK.

go take a ride in a jeep, (one that has the ameneties our trucks come with) and then tell me about noise and price.

i hear the new cts-v wagon is badass....over 500hp and quiet as hell for around 65k.....it may be my next investment.
or i could go and buy a kia rio for $9995. and feel like im driving a box full of empty beer cans......

Ok I got a 2011 access cab and he make that sound once after not even a 1000 km....

So I start looking the sound was looking like it come from the AC systeme or like buttom of windshield ... (ac trap )

And I figured that if I open my window a bit and close them back ... the sound stop ...
It was probably just the window that wasn't perfecly seal ... So may be if you can try to just wash all your seal first ... and make sure all your windows are close when driving...
That might sound stupide but we never know ... I found it because I was tirer and I open my window for a bit ...
