6/2(1+2) = ?

alright guys laugh away! i honestly did not even know what to do. i do know that you do the () first! but after that, i was puzzled. wow. at least i was honest. my oldest daughter had to come over and explain it to me. NOW THATS PATHETIC.

Even if it's a fraction:

Same rules apply, following PEMDAS, and going to left to right (in this case, division is still before multiplication top to bottom) you still divide 6 by 2. Therefore you get 3(3) which is 9.

 

6/2(1+2)
6/2(3)

I'll save you some time, my Fiance teaches at an elementary school and she says it is 9. Although she also said it is stupid to write it out that way.

because the question was:

6/2(1+2) aka 6/2 x (1+2)

that is what you do, because the 3 still had () around it so you distribute the 2

if you're going to distribute, you have to distribute the 6 and the 2. Can't just take little old 2 from her buddy 6. . .

 

that is not right the two on the bottom would cancle out leaving the on top, 3 divided by 3 is 1
