making a wierd wining noise

after taking my truck to play in the mud yesterday now it has a wierd wining noise, almost like it has a supercharger haha my buddies were telling me its my power steering pump what do you guys think?

If your at work, what the hell are doing on TW? Haha jk. When your driving or idling?

 

Probably got mud on your belst try giving it a good cleaning, or try taking off your serp belt if the noise goes away it is your belt

 

its all the time the truck can be idling and it still wines it gets louder when u give it gas, and yes im at work on TW im addicted lol

 

my 2006 is making a similar noise i think. the whinning/whirring gets worse as speed increases or when you gas it. i can sense a small amount of vibration in my feet while driving which also increases as the speed increases. seems to be coming from the front center right of the underside of the truck. saw a few drips coming from that area too.

any engine wizards can deduce what is going on? the whirring sounds like the 4wheel drive is engaged.

 

I would start by opening up the hood and sticking my head under there and see if I could detect where the noise was coming from. Sometimes you can take a piece of hose and put it to your ear and move the other end around the engine and see if you can isolate the noise. Just a thought.

could it be the power steering pump? or does it sound like belts?

that dont sound like belts to me. when it idles down it sorta sounds like power steering.

 

ive been working quite a bit lately but tomorow im going to pop the hood and see if i can source out were the sound is comming from

 

come on! if your on TW during work, then you are on TW not working. (i only get on during lunch.) giving you a hard time dude! i actually have tomorrow OFF!!!!! good luck w the truck. let us know what the noise was.

 

It's definitely your belts, and that's exactly why I don't blast through mud anymore.

Idler bearings, I had to replace two of mine last spring. It was making the same kind of noise as your truck, kind of sounded like I had a supercharger.

Going from memory here, the 4.0 has 2 upper and 2 lower idlers plus a tensioner. I ended up replacing both upper idlers. I found them at www.rockauto.com for like $35 a piece, Toyota wanted like $75. I tried to source just the bearings at the local hardware store, but had no luck.
