I just took a placement test for college and sucked at math but looked at this and said 9 without thinking. Its the xy shit that gets me these days!

It looks like your divisior line is covering both terms. If that's the case, you'd be wrong. Since the divisor line covers the entire lower portion, you'd do that as one operation. It's the same as if it were in parenthesis:

2 can cancel with the upper part of the fraction to become:

(2+1)

Because the original was written as
6/2(2+1) without parenthesis, the divisor line doesn't cover the (2+1), therefore it can be rewritten as

6 * (2+1) or 3*3 = 9

For the (2+1) to be included in the divisor it must be written like this:
6/[2(3+1)]
