Clutch is depressed to the floor

I have a 1995 Tacoma V6 5spd with 255k miles on it. I tried to put it in gear last week and the clutch was completely depressed with no response. In addition to that I could not get it into gear. (I realize that if it would have gotten it into gear what would/could happen so no need to comment on that.) There had been a slow leak under the right center of the engine compartment but looked mostly like engine oil.

I have very little experience with this type of repair but don't need the vehicle as a driver so time is not against me to learn what to do. Can anyone give me a hand as to what to look for in terms of where to start diagnosing the problem. ie, master cylinder, slave, linkage....Thanks for your help!

I had a similar problem on my 05 6 spd one day went to put it into second from first and didnt want to go into gear, it was my pressure plate after I removed it the plate was bent in. So I replaced it and I was good to go, could be the problem just a thought.

Slave cyclinder---easy fix.

 

bad slave would mean there is no pressure on the pedal... do you feel pressure at all? or does it just sink to the floor pretty easy? I wouldn't jump on the slave cylinder bandwagon just yet.... does the pedal come up on it's own?

 

While I don't disagree with your assessment based on milage....Clutch wear would not make you bottom out the pedal....Slave cylinder is a better place to start.

 

is the slave cylinder the same thing on a master cylinder? cause you could have bent the little piston in the mastercylinder

 

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. It got me out to and start looking around...what I found was that when I pulled the clutch up from the floor it started working just fine. That raises a bit of concern about what problem caused that. If someone happens to have any experience with this, let me know.
