I have Wheelers OME complete lift. 881 coils, 10mm lift enhancer and LR UCA's. What do I need to do to fit a 285/75R16. I have searched quite a bit and found that some say wheel spacers will make the rub worse, also read that a 4.5" backspacing is key but the factory wheel is a 4.5" backspace, also read that an aftermarket UCA will help. I have read trimming ends up being necessary pinch weld mod mostly. Just looking for a more concrete answer to fitting these tires before dropping a lot of cash on a tire that might be more trouble then its worth.

Secondary tire size is 265/75R16 but really like the looks of the 285.

    All help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

I forgot to measure the before but according to wheelers with the combo I have set up ~2.75 inches of lift.

You should be good. I would take the mud flaps off the front. Rear is optional, and some minor trimming but all in all it'll look good :)

So they will fit as is? Do you still think wheel spacers are needed? Looking at the inside of the wheel now with the 265 it looks really close to the UCA.

Yeah they are. If your running stock rims I think its a 5.0 backspacing not sure, but im positive you need a rim with atleast a 4.5 bs or less so wheel spacers are needed

I read that the 2004 stock wheel is 4.5" backspacing. I guess I take a wheel off and measure for myself.

Nice Thank you! Will the 1.25" spacer cause any additional rubbing? or Eliminate all rubbing?

No problem. And it'll make the tire stick out more. Clear the uca's but might still have to do some fender trimming but thats always a have to with bigger tires.

Are the Spidertrax's really worth all that extra money?

They are, its either the spidertraxx or suspension/rubbing problems. If i were you I would try to get some rims with a 4.5 bs or less instead of worrying about clearnce

Engage Offroad long travel front and rear with some fat tires.
the key to fitting the 285s is first backspacing on your wheels... look into a 16x8 wheel with 4" backspace or less... that will help keep the sidewall of the tire away from the spindle/UCA, and the lift helps keep the sidewall from rubbing against the frame during normal driving...

with the smaller backspace, you can also throw on some 3.5" fiberglass fenders and hammer the pinch weld in to prevent rubbing in those spots...

next, when you get the truck aligned, see if the shop will set your caster around 2 degrees forward... 1.5 degrees is a happy median...

there are a number of guys running it with the stock fenders and seem to only rub during articulation... considering you will likely flex at slow speeds only, the rub is bearable...

before going LT, i cleared the stock UCA and spindle just fine with an aggressive 285 like the Cooper STT...

I had 285's on my stock wheels (2003) with no spacers for a short while. They only rubbed when steering was at full lock (on frame) and at different places on frame when in articulation. I had ~2.85" lift up front.... The rub was NOT significant. Only downsized due to fuel economy.

Running the larger size, does it really hit fuel economy hard? What size did you downsize to?

The 285's were D-Rated and listed on BFG's website as 54 lbs each. Went to E-Rated 265/75/16 Bridgestone's listed as 47lbs each....saw a 3 mpg gain. Pretty significant.
