I have a 2009 Tacoma DBL Cab 4X4 V6 L/B. Everytime I start my truck and put it into gear, a sound that I can only describe as sounding like an air wrench going off for a second comes from the front passengers side of the truck. It sounds like it is coming from underneath the truck. I thought it sounded like the rear view camera was activating itself. This only happens each time the truck is shut off and started and put into gear. I am sure it is supposed to happen, but I would like to know what the sound is. The dealership that I bought it from didn't give me a satisfactory answer. I suggested it sounded like the rear camera was focusing itself and they agreed. Sounds like it may be a case of the blind leading the blind. Does anyone on this forum have any ideas as to what that sound may be and do other 09 Tacoma owners experience the same noise when they start their truck and put it into gear?

My truck did that for a while when it was new. Im not sure when, but it eventually went away. It doesnt make the sound anymore.

You might be referring to the ABS system check. It's a sound that happens everytime you put the truck in gear and start moving.

That sounds like that could be the sound I am hearing. I am sure it is a sound that is supposed to happen and the ABS system check would be a likely culprit. Thankyou!
