    ^^So by this logic, 5x5 also equals 1:
    5(5)=x
    x(5)=5
    x=1

    For this to work correctly, you need to reverse the sign when you swap sides (sorry I don't know all the proper math terms, but I do know this)
    5(5)=x
    x÷ 5=5
    x=25

    So:
    6/2(1+2)=x
    x÷(1+2)=6/2
    x÷(1+2)=3
    x÷(3)=3
    x=9

    I do see the point that some are making that if the equation is
    ....6
    --------
    2(1+2)

    then the answer would be 1, but I don't believe that is how this problem should be read, and so I stick with 9. :)

    The answer is 9. If this were to be read as a fraction, everything after the / would need to be in brackets to indicate such.

    6/[2(1+2)]
    6/[2(3)]
    6/[6]
    6/6
    1

    But that's not how it's written, so the / is read as a divisor.

    6/2(1+2)
    6/2(3)
    3(3)
    9

    Brackets Exponents Multiplication & Division (left to right) Addition & Subtraction (left to right)

    Its 9.

    Parentehesis
    Exponents
    Multiplication and Division left to right
    Addition and Subtraction left to right

    6/2(1+2)
    6/2(3)
    3(3)
    9

    This one would be 1: (This would be the fraction so many of you are rallying for)
    6/{2(1+2)}

    I can't believe this is a 24 page discussion.:facepalm:

    If the plane is not moving forward in relation to the air around the wing. then no, because its relative velocity with the air around the wing is 0.

    No, if you put a big ass fan in front of the plane that is sitting on a treadmill, then you could produce the lift required to takeoff.

    Hahaha I haven't even read all 24 pages. But seriously, anyone who argues that the answer is 1 should be shot.

    6/2(2+1) = 9

    6/[2(2+1)] = 1

    See the difference, everyone?

    Brackets, Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication/Division (left to right), Addition/Subtraction (left to right).

    Most people don't write "brackets," because theoretically multiple sets of parenthesis can be used (but its easier to keep track of things with bracket use).
