Using the emergency jack - are you kidding??

I just took possession of my 2011 Taco last week (my first one) and have been "getting to know her" since. This weekend, I took out the jack and crawled under to find the jacking points as set forth in the owner's manual. Front points - ok. But I can't believe that Toyota is recommending such potentially dangerous jacking points (under the rear axel) WITH THAT JACK for the back tire changes. I can't image trusting the axel to not slip off of the jack! To me it seems that the top of the jack post is so flat that any nudge at all seems likely to result in the axel slipping off. Am I missing something??

I haven't used my factory jack to jack up my truck once, I use my floor jack. However, it is a good jack, I have used it many times to jack up other vehicles and all 3 of my trailers. Not sure if i would use it on the rear axle tube either.

 

dude ive been using the jack for years that i got from my truck with no problems. just use that thing on leveled ground

 

It's an emergency jack for a reason. Second, if you have 4x4, throw it on just before you set park. That will lock all the tires in place. I do this when I have to change the tires on the front.

That and chock your wheels.

 

Use the stock jack to chock 1/2 of your wheel!!!!

 

i plan on using the stock jack when installing my dakars.....as a spreader

 

Meh. Buy a hi-lift. Call it a day.

 

This. It's never taken me more than 15 mins on the jack for a spare swap. I'm not gunna climb under the truck up on that spare jack-but it'll work just fine to swap tires.

^Nice. I'm thinking of pitching it from the truck completely and mounting my hi-lift in the bed. It's retarded how much easier it is to jack using the hi-lift versus bottle jacks. 4-5 cranks and the tire is 2" off the ground.
