Any problems from removing the secondary air filter

Before I do this mod, I wanted to check with others to see if any problems arose from doing so. Also, what where the major gains if any I have an 07 .....

there is on the I-4 like 007Tacoma did. but i havent heard anything on the V6

You might look into adding a cold air intake system. I think most of them do away with the secondary filter. I installed the TRD cold air intake, and it does not use the secondary filter. The TRD cold air intake was everything I hoped it would be. Does not seem to have affected my mileage when I drive normally. Horsepower and torque gains are very impressive for such an easy modification. I'm thinking I got it bought for around $340. I installed it myself in about an hour or so.

 

ok... I havent heard of anyone doing it to a V6 but i dont think it would help very much.. just more stuff getting in and coming out of your engine, Thats one of those mods that i wouldnt do because so many things could go wrong

I've done it, no issues nor have I ever heard of anybody having an issue with it. Truck idles a little better but thats about it. If you've got the time to do it I'd go for it.

 

I did it on my V6 and added the K&N intake. I'm happy with the gains. It seems more responsive, but I can't tell by the butt dyno.

 

so if you take out the secondary filter and then add the K&N (or whatever) cold air intake it will help

 

I don't know that there's any positive to removing it but there certainly is no negative that I've seen. I took it out about a year ago. If there were a negative, I wouldn't think all the aftermarket CAI's would delete it.

The OEM system already is a CAI. Remove the secondary filter and throw in an AFE ProdryS drop in filter and you save yourself $250+ and end up with about the same gains, if any.

i did it and i havent noticed anything one way or the other. no difference in reving, no difference in gas millage, nothing. BUT its nice knowing the truck runs cleaner no matter what. Why breathe through a straw?

 

My truck runs fine without it.

 

it just seems louder to me
