type ws atf or amsoil?

Well i did a little research and found some disturbing info. The local Toyota dealer is currently under a law suit for this exact problem. I have a 2005 tacoma that takes the ATF WS fluid and am at the 100k mark and need it done. The local toyota dealer has been using a cheap alternative to this and is currently having big troubles here in my town. Now im DEFINETLY not going to toyota for a trans. flush...I've read that the Amsoil synthetic low viscosity, fuel efficient atf meet the toyota atf-ws standards and u can use it if u want to shell out a couple more bucks. I have a reputable friend that owns a shop that can to a flush THE RIGHT WAY if i supply him the fluid i need exactly...should i just say F**k toyota and thier ws fluid and just use Amsoil and have it flushed at my friends shop? he said it would still be over 100.00$-thats better than 160.00$ at my untrusting local Toyota.....any suggestions??

 

Where'd you read it?

If it really does meet ATF-WS spec then it will be OK to use, but if you can't get certification in writing from Amsoil I'd stay with Toyota's to be safe. But be careful: if what you're reading says it meets a whole bunch of specifications like Dexron, Mercon, etc. etc., then they are lying. ATF-WS is very low viscosity, it won't work well in transmissions designed for higher viscosity fluids and they won't work well in yours.

Toyota's is already high quality synthetic (which is the only thing Amsoil can possibly offer), you know your transmission's designed to work well with it, and it got ya to 100k with no problems. Why change now?

Don't dismiss Toyota because a dealer's service department is a scam operation.

 

I use Aims oil ATF is other vehicles no issues. If you prefer the toyota stuff, go to a different dealer and order it and have your friend do the work. The important thing here is screw the dealer's crappy work.
