Mine is lightly moded. WeatherTech liners, nerf bars, iPod adaptor. All things that I use every day. My last truck was a 2000 Tacoma extended cab, 2wd 2.4l. I owned it for 9 years. It was completely stock when I sold it. Great truck and I loved it, but I needed more room and 4wd for snow. I will likely keep my 08 Tacoma for 10-15 yrs at least.

When I sell it, it will be an old truck. I bought it to drive and enjoy. The way I see it, modding is not about value or retaining the trucks value. Modding and wheeling are hobbies. There are lots of hobbys that give you enjoyment for only the moment, then all you have are memories. At least with truck parts, you can sell them.

As long as you can afford it, spend money on things that make you happy.

I'd say mod it to the point you need to. That's not a real fun way look at it I guess, but it's what I did. Rolling, locking rear cover, light bar (so I could mount lights), and the steps (so the wife could get in). That way it works for me.

Tough question with such an inviting canvas......LOL

but after owning bikes for years I have learned two things. Never replace something that works with something that does the same but is shinier...unless the part is adding a function that makes the whole better.

I then ask myself if I would buy a bike or truck modded like mine and what would it say about the previous owner.....Did they abuse the vehicle (ala performance mods for racing or heavy duty off roading)

I then decided IF I were to install those types of mods they would have to be reversible upon sale and sold separately which was a win win because the new owner saw a stock vehicle AND I received more money for the modification part.

A Mustang seat on a bike costs $500.... I could sell that seat for $300 and not get a penny less for the bike with the stock seat and not get more for the Mustang on the bike... I think it works the same way with all mod friendly vehicles.

Wehn people are driving these trucks they poo poo the cleanly modded but never off roaded Mall crawlers but when they go to buy one used THAT is the one they would choose over the muddy overly modded off roaded weekly truck. or the Stock TRD that has not been F^%ked with...too much.

I enjoy the truck but I won't make it a "hobby". Love seeing the mods on other trucks though. Some really nice trucks.....and OR pics.

My truck has not even been delivered yet and I have Weathertechs and a pop and lock in my room. Soon as my tax returns come in, eibachs and 5100s here I come. I wish the mod bug didnt hit me but I cant keep anything stock. Whats the fun in that. You will get way more Smiles to the gallon (SPG) when you make your vehicle how you want it.

I have a lot of fun every day, even though my truck is 98.2% stock. I guess messing with my truck in my spare time just isn't a hobby... yet.

my opinion mod it!!! have fun with it! like everyone has said keep the stock stuff... but MOST IMPORTANT!!!! do your mods right! take time to research the best qualities... what ever your thinking of changing get the best... what ever your painting prep your heart out and dont cut corners.. what ever your wiring.. and so on.. DONT CUT CORNERS!! in the end someone here will see what its worth... dont trade in... be patient and give your self time if your gonna sell.. selling to someone is much better better appreciation..

You can have a whole hell of a lot of reversible fun even if the only thing you ever cut is the body mount in the front wheel wells so you can fit bigger tires. Do what you want to do. You can take it all off if you decide to sell it. Your neighbor is right that you shouldn't expect any more money for it if you try to sell it/trade it in with the modifications still on it.

personally, I dont define who I am by how my truck looks so mine is pretty much bone stock aside from a few cheap interior mods like a 110v outlet mounted in the console

stock sucks, leaving vehicles alone is totally pointless. everyone tells me about how much trucks resale value is going to go down but quite frankly buying a truck and leaving it stock is like buying a place holder. its going to go down in resale value anyways so might as well have some fun with it. also if you keep it long enough and keep it in good condition a modded older truck will fetch more than a stock old truck

My vehicle gets me + crap from point A to point B. To me, having a special grill or big-ass tires is pointless.

You have to realize that you joined a site for automotive enthusiasts. Most of the people on TW don't just view their truck as a means of transportation like you do. We love our trucks and we love to modify them to make them unique.

and there's a lot of people who enjoy getting good mileage and having an economical vehicle with a low cost of ownership. I dont look down on people who overly mod its just not my thing but I dont believe my truck is "pointless" because its not modded.

You can mod any truck- I got my tacoma for durability, reliability and a low cost of ownership.

Not here! Light mods get you more money for your truck.

    Mine is and they're haters!

I agree! Did at least light mods to every vehicle I've owned.

That still hasn't happened to my first tuck! A kid drives and is currently trying to kill it like I was when it was mine! :D

Why would you ever want to sale it??? I plan on modding mine to the extreme and running it into the ground. It's a Tacoma so it's going to take a while.
