Ipod Adapter for 2010 tacoma w/jbl & sat

my 2010 tacoma came with the jbl sound system with xm installed, i have done a bit of research, and i have come to the conclusion that either the GROM or the toyota adapter are the best adapters for ipod.

I dont care if i have to disconnect the xm, i do have the aux input, but id much rather use a standard ipod connector.

Im looking to spend $150 or less for this adapter.

can anyone help me here?

I've had both in a non-JBL 2011 Tacoma.

The OEM iPod adapter is Apple certified and allows you to scroll through artists, playlists, etc. Limits on the device are those of the iPod itself. I think you might be hard pressed to get one for $150 or less. On a 2011 PreRunner the device emulates a Sat receiver - my iPod shows up as Sat 1 on the display.

The Grom sets itself up as a CD-Changer and requires iPod playlists set up with numbers in the beginning of the name (5-My Songs..., 12-Hits, etc.) - which then translate to virtual CDs. Playlists (virtual CDs) are limited to 2000 songs if you want shuffle/repeat to work. Up to 99 Virtual CDs are built in for 2010 (I think). New, you will be under $150, and even if you want Aux and USB you would still be under $150.

Self-serving plug: I have a used Grom for sale in the classified section here, and based on my experience the Grom unit functions well, but you need to confirm with them that the model you are interested in is fully supported for a 2010 JBL headunit. I went OEM after Grom, but only because the Grom doesn't work with 2011 and I was too impatient to wait until they figured it out.

Dont you have an aux jack on the front of the head unit. Just plug the Ipod into the aux jack.

 

For the non-JBL the answer is yes, and the steering wheel controls work too.

I note the web page does not (yet) show 2011 compatibility. I suggest getting it in writing in case it doesn't - then you have grounds for a return/refund.

Yeah, I saw that - my concern was for DTaco55 since they said 2011 was supported, but their documentation doesn't yet match.

The AUX jack is below the climate controls and you can't control the ipod with the steering wheel and radio controls using the AUX jack which is one of the main reasons for getting a integrated unit.

 

Thanks for your concern, Grom hasn't updated their web site for most 2011's yet. I did get it in writing from Grom via e-mail that the ipd-3 adapter will work on the 2011 w/ the JBL pkg.

 

It will charge the Ipod and you will be able to control it from the steering wheel controls as well as still being able to have SAT radio.

 

how does it hookup to the radio?

hey guys!! I had a 2008 dbl cab sport and i was wondering if the oem ipod adaptor will still work on the 2010 tacoma?

 

how did you guys route the ipod cable to the front?
