15" subwoofers

Does anyone have more than one 15" sub in their 1st gen ext. cab??? I've had a set of 10's before but they were recently sold, I'm debating whether or not I should purchase a set of 15's from a friend at a really good price but I am not sure how they would fit nicely or where to get a good box for my application...

Any help is appreciated!!

 

what are they? and what are you powering them with

 

2 Kicker Comp 8-ohm's and I have a Sony Xplod ZZR3301 mono block amp(Class-D 1100w) to power them, but that's not the main concern because the amp is totally capable, box fitment is my dilema.

 

No doubt there, especially ported...If I can find the right means by the box that is, I think I'll take up my bud's offer, $100 for prestine 15's, no questions there, I also snagged the amp for $75 yesterday, which was a steal on my part.

 

If they dont fit you can always sell them for more

 

That's an option but not really worth my time, the Comps will beat but they are pretty common down in these parts, I'll try my best to make it work though.

 

tryin to figure out the same thing. last taco(91 extended cab) i threw in a fosgate p2 12 behind my seat and in a sealed enclosure, and i used to rock all my friends with their stereos they built. but new truck equals a new system, and i want a fifteen, although i cant figure out how/where to mount it. if anyone has heard of a good idea lemme know

 

Are you kidding? 15" subs are way too big. Especially in a small truck! TWO of them?

I guess if you want to be one of those tools driving around that has ONLY bass in their music, then go for it. 10" subs produce much cleaner, tighter, better-sounding bass.

It amazes me how many people only focus on trying to get as much bass as possible out of their sound system. Don't you guys realize this sounds horrible?!!!!

Focus on good SOUND, not just good bass.

 

ha. fortunately i agree with you. and i also wont be needing two 15's. one correctly pwered 15 wired at 4ohms will hit not only the high tones but can certainly hit all the lows the music i listen have to offer. and i can assure you backed by 4 Focal 6 1/2's, itll bump very clear. i have a vid of our boat with 4 fosgate p3 15's that absolutely dominates all stereo comps. and the vid is a rock song too, so youll have a good idea of just how insane it is. im gonna go ahead and post it anyways. one moment pleaseeeeee

 

That's not necessarily true with the right mids and highs you can make 2 15's sound good but it takes a lot of work. I see what your saying about the tools with all bass. No one really thinks about the mids and highs when building a system.

OP the system your thinking of building it not really going to sound that great. You could go with one 10" or one 12" in a big ported box only taking up half of your back seat and you would have plenty of bass for that little cab. And 1000 watts max is really low for 2 15's I ran that for my mids and highs back when I had a system.

I have ONE Memphis Audio 12" in a box sitting behind my Passenger seat in the floor board, facing the rear. I'm running a 1000 watt amp to it and it has a very full, deep sound. If I want to really thump I just turn the bass up on the head unit. I'm working on a box to go in between the two rear seats.

In short: You only need one sub, dude. If you want it to be TOO loud get a good quality Memphis, JL, or Boston and run LOTS of power to it. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

 

Dude..seriously...2 15s is MAJOR overkill. And like JLee stated you can make them sound good but you would need about 10-14 speakers to keep up with two 15'' subs.

Trust me, coming from and Audiophile and future Mixing engineer, you should never get a sub bigger then 10''. 8 and 10'' subs reproduce the cleanest sounding bass you can get. I went with two 10s in my truck and have 6 speakers to balance it out but even they have a hard time keeping up when the volume is up really loud.



Two alpine Type Xs, some of the most powerful 10s you can buy and clean sounding too. I have had quite a few subs and i LOVE these. hit tight move lots of air and sound great. Plus they out bump a lot of 12'' subs. Tho i obviously have no back seat now.

If you want room still i highly recommend the Kicker CompVT slim 10'' subs. These are very tight sounding subs and require small boxes.

again tho, two 15s in that truck would be pointless. The box size you would need to build to get to fully utilize the potential those subs have at moving air would have to be like 6-8 cu ft or larger. If you want a huge car stereo the wins SPL competitions, go buy a large van or SUV.

also running 3 amps to one sub...is NEVER a good idea. Get one big mono block and do it right. SSL makes great amps that are very affordable. My 4000w mono was only 200 bucks brand new and pushes over 2000w RMS at 1 Ohm. Dual fan cooled as well, only ever over heated once in the 2 1/2 years i have owned it and it was 104 F outside and had been pushing my subs HARD for over an hour and a half.

 

You will need more the 4 to properly balance out the 15

and also now sub should EVER be wired to hit the "highs". You should have a LPF on it at the max of 200hz. 125 is most common tho. i keep mine at 80hz

 

Finally someone that understands good SOUND and not just bass.

 

Im an audiophile what can i say plus my major is Music Technology/recording

 

by highs i meant higher bass tones. past experience tells me a ten hits the higher ones cleaner because it has less to pullback and forth. but a nice 15 powered properly has proed to have no issue pushing and pulling the cone for those more rapid bass hits. and as far as the hz goes.. sure i can run a universal 200hz, or i can look at the rating the sub has, which will explain its range and where to set the lpf and ssf. as far hasing more than 4, i suppose thatd be true if i am runniing it at max db, but id rather bring the bass down, but just kow i can turn it up via a bass knob in case anyone is talking shit lol. btw im not trying to convey a message that i know more than or as much as you about stereos. its ur major, ull rail me. i tried to find a class to take for car audio, my college does not offer anything =(

Okay well i think you in the same situation as me, and seriously, go look at or try and find someone who has some good powered type Xs, they are 1000w RMS for christ sake. If you want more bass i just turn the knob like you say when someone talks shit and i out bump em and move on lol Mean while i have a great sounding system thats way more pratical then a 15in sub. Basicly, you dont have the room man. Two 10s or one 12(maybe 2 12s) is what will work best for our trucks. Unless you want to make a custom box that extends through the bed and that is a PIA lol

but seriously, The type X is more of an SQ sub then and SPL, but it has great power for SPL. ITs why i chose it, i didnt want an SPL or SQ system, i wanted an SQ system with high SPL lol and as stated above, i can out bump most ppls 12s...
