So I got married about a year ago and its time to ditch the ole stang and get a new Tacoma. I'll probably wait till around March to buy, but I wanted to start doing some research now. I'm debating on trying to get an 08 or if I should just go with the 09 model. Is there any major difference in these?

Here is what I am looking at:

    08 or 09 Double Cab
    SR5 or maybe TRD sport
    Black Sand Pearl

I don't really need an off road vehicle as it doesn't snow much here in central Texas. So i figured the 4x2 will be just fine. There are only 2 dealerships in my town, so I may have to travel to Dallas or San Antonio. Suggestions are welcome.

Kinda new to the forum myself, but i would suggest the SR5 PreRunner model, since you say you don't need an offroad vehicle and are looking for a 2WD, its nice and comes with everything you need, and is not to low to the ground in case you do go offroad on occasion. No need to pay extra for a TRD model. Though i do love my TRD, and probably would make the same mistake again by buying another TRD just for the look.

^I agree with that. If you decide to make it more off road capable in the future, the money you save by not going TRD will cover it.

^^good advice above, and to add, you probably won't have much to choose from as far as '08 if ya wait much longer. Check the dealer website and see what the stock is right now and then go from there on if you will go '08 or '09.......then you can research the option difference, which is minimal, and then decide.

Thanks for the advice. I've been at Edmunds.com pricing out options. It seems that the TRD sport package is only about $1,000 more than the SR5 package #2. That doesn't seem like too big of a deal, but all that I can see it adds is a hood scoop and some suspension stuff. I saw that you can make the hood scoop functional so I may lean toward the TRD.

    Welcome to TW :D

If you're thinking you may regret buying the SR5 instead of the TRD trucks, then go ahead and get the TRD.

if you're looking at 08s with cheap financing, they'll probably go fast. if you wait til march, you might not have much to pick from. i recently picked up an 08 with great financing - couldn't pass it up! why wait - buy now! best (vehicle) decision i've ever made

I wish I could. I've got a credit card to pay off first. Was your 08 quite a bit cheaper than the 09?

yes it was cheaper and the financing at the time was much better. for the life of my loan, i will save about 6K over a 09. i do miss some of the 09 stuff - rear view camera, satellite antenna, auxiliary radio input but i'm slowly adding all that stuff with mods :)

I'm trying to figure out how long the 0% interest is going to last, but I haven't seen anything on Toyota's website.

you most likely won't find out about upcoming deals. typically they run for the month. if you find a good local dealer, they may know whats coming down the pipe...

2008 TRD with the Baja toyota Package
    COMING SOON
what u want to do is go to CARSDIRECT.co m before u go in to make a deal .... put in all the options u want for ur truck and they will give u a print out with the best deal possible on the model u want then take it to the dealer ship and tell them to match that price for that model..... dont leave till they match or beat the price ..... thats what i did for my 2008 TRD access cab and i got a great deal 3500 off sticker price with a 2.7 % interest rate..... great compared to the standard 1000 cash back and 0 perent for 3 years that toyota financial offers.

The main difference in the 2009 is the sat antenna, the steering wheel voulume control and the rear back up cam in 4 door models... which u can view in a screen that appears in the rear view mirror so that cool also u can get a jbl sub installed in the rear seats..... but other than those minor changes they are exactly the same. All of these new options arent cheap either i priced the 09 they are going for about 31,000 with those options so even if u got 4 grand off that ur paying 27 k plus tax and licnese ur looking at 32,000.

But if i were u i would go for the TRD u get the nice upgraded mesh vented seats which have a very comfortable bucket seat feel to them , and the tow package is awesome also my favorite thing about the trd which is obsolete on the normal sr5 package is the Power outlet built in the bed.,.... that thing is awesome.... powers vacumes large flood lioghts,,,, so yes i would def. get trd unless your going to built it up right away.

but yea go to CARSDIRECT.com and get a print out and tell the dealer what u want and show him that and guarenteed he'll match it :D:D:D:cool:

Toyota Motor Corp. reported a 37 percent slide for Dec 08. For the year (2008) they are down 16%.

As long as you don't go ridiculously low, they should be willing to work a deal out with you.

I went to my local dealer to talk to a salesperson who i had emailed about a Tacoma. We were talking & he was trying to look up on his computer the pkg. i wanted, he couldn't it. He told me he was going to get a brochure so i could show him the pkg. i wanted. I thought how can he sell me what i want & he doesn't have a brodhure on his desk? I went to another dealer & he offered to give me a brochure.
Like others i'm wondering how long the rebates/incentives will be around will sales still dropping.

I just worked on those 0% Financing ads you see on TV. From what I can tell from the ad agency people - Toyota is strong enough to provide ridiculous financing for awhile so cars can sell...

I got the SR5 package and still kick myself for not getting the off-road. The power point in the bed, the temp and compass in the cab, the bigger 16" wheels, locking rear diff, and the tighter suspension. I have vowed to get my next Taco will all the options.

Thanks for the info Charlie. I am hoping to keep the price around 22 or 23 so I may have to stick with the SR5, unless I could get a steal on a TRD sport.

their website states that the 0% ends 1/7/2009.

I guess it helps if I give a link on where I found this info. This only applied to the Gulf States, read the small prints for detail.

I tried the Carsdirect.com route, but they didn't have any dealers in my area. I will keep looking around, but do you guys think around 22k or 23k for an SR5? And about 25k for a TRD Sport? Or should I be able to get a better deal than that?
