It's 9. Trust me. The divisor sign and "/" are different than "over" symbol.

This is probably the saddest thead I've ever seen. People know PEMDAS, so they think it is 1. But they have totally forgotten that MD and AS are on the same level so are read left to right.

I almost find it hard to believe that anyone who has "graduated" elementary school could get this wrong.

If any of you who answered 1 ask any person who's profession involves math you're going to feel very stupid haha.

Lots of people assumed that. But in order for it to be that, it should be written 6/(2(1+2)). Notice the extra parentheses.

Hey we still on this? I wanna debate how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. :D

Ya no idea why that would be assume when it was in no way implied. You can't just add extra brackets wherever you want :)

Because an assumption does not require an implication.

You cannot agree to disagree. Math is pretty absolute, especially in the elementary school area.

If you got 1, use google, order of operations, and enlighten yourself.

Sadly, though, as many have pointed out, it's NOT like that. Extra parenthesis/brackets would be required. But you're right, that's where everyone went wrong. :)

You need to find some better wisemen. Try the ones that Jesus used -- I hear they're pretty reliable.

Edit: ^^ That's only supposed to be humorous, not picking on any Christianity. I actually teach Sunday school.
