    Hi guys,

I got a new job in long beach. Any advice on where I should live? I put in an application for a place in Archstone Apartments, near down town long beach. $1350 a month for a studio, kind of crazy!

    Thanks!

CHeck out the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. I have seen places down on Ocean St for $700-$1000. Not bad and across the street from the beach. Easy to get to downtown and the freeways.

Wow guys are quick! Thanks for the input so far. I don't have pets and will no have a room mate.

I'll check out Belmont Shores. My girlfriend just got a job in Ladera Heights so I was trying to get a place in between our jobs but I'm not comfortable paying $1500 for a studio in Redondo Beach.

I looked up Belmont Shores on Westsiderentals and googled it for some apartments but they were running about $1100 for something that didn't look very safe lol

I avoid downtown Long Beach like the plague! Daytime is fine but sketchy at night. Belmont Shore and Belmont Heights are next to each other and are both nice neighborhoods (lived in Belmont Shore, still have a house there). Bixby Village is near the University, stay out of Downtown, North, and west Long Beach...

Not sure if a lot of the apts will show up there... google long beach rentals and check them out. Lots of small apt mgt companies there.

Craigslist is a good resource also, just narrow it down by area.

I already put down a deposit but I'll talk to them to get out of that if I find a good replacement.

I'm open to the idea of driving 30 mins to work. My job is in the same complex as Long Beach airport.

You guys are really scaring me about Long Beach lol

Don't worry to much about it... just have to know what areas to avoid. I have some friends that live in San Pedro but I don't know much about the area. Feel free to ask any questions, I'm in Florida right now but will do what I can to help...

im in Carson on weekends, and in long beach every so often...

North Long Beach towards Compton (91 fwy) is ghetto and while it's typically ok during the day, late night activity in the area can be a lil sketch... i have friends that live in that area, and they always tell me to wear blue when i go there at night... hahaha... they even worry cuz my truck is red... i get stared down for it, but nobody has ever rolled up on me...

i hang at some studios near downtown LB and the area looks cool during the day, but there are a lot of homeless that wander through the area at all times of the day, and you will see random dope dealers even in the nicer looking structured neighborhoods...

Wow. I used to live in redondo beach when I was 5 or 6. I remember alot about it. I always wondered about it these days seeing long beach in alot of rap videos. Naturally at that age I didnt know anything about compton. Mom was single raising 2 boys on her own. Crazy stuff.
Now at 43 I just always wondered how rb and lb are today compared to back in "72".

not as "white" as it used to be... hahaha

RB is still nice... lotta bros but at least they aren't typically pulling drive bys and shooting innocent bystanders...
