Pricey. If you dont have a good independent Toyota mechanic, I would go with a reputable mechanic in general. Its not too hard to put one of them on...its pretty much just taking your intake manifold off and replacing it.

You might want to consider all the other items that would support the 1st gen SC. Theres been lots of reports of knock due to the lack of fuel under load. URD makes some stuff that compliment the SC really well, but its another $1500 on top of the SC.

I paid 3000 for the supercharger, and installed it myself. There is no way a 1st gen supecharger would cost 5300

    ...too much shit to list.
    You're getting raped.
I picked up mine for $1600 bucks brand new in the box on craigslist.
Keep a eye on ebay. I've seen 3 sell in the last few months brand new for less than $2500.
UDR 7th injector kit is another $900 (assuming your truck does not EGR). If you have EGR, they sell a different kit with 6 larger fuel injectors. That kit is $1000.
Instructions are mostly straitforward. Took me 1/2 day to do the s/c in my garage. No special tools needed except maybe a tap. UDR kit took me another 1/2 day but only cause you have to drop the fuel tank (I actually had to twice as it came out...but that's just cause I didn't read the instructions...and should have).
Do yourself a favor, and buy the UDR kit and install it at the same time. There's no sense in driving around pinging everywhere...and you will.
