I'm using 5w20 at the moment but I'd like to see how much of a mileage difference the 0w20 will produce.

The problem is I'm having a heck of a time finding any. I've tried walmart, autozone, oreilys... no luck.. any ideas for the Dallas TX area?

I used to run Castrol Syntec 0-20w, the german greenish stuff in my car. Was good stuff but I could never find it when I needed it due to the spotty supplies and it comes in a 6 pack if you found a case of it. It wasn't good enough for the hassle of chasing around for it IMO.

I switched from 5-30 to 0-30 and didn't really see a mileage difference. You are better protected at startup with the 0 weight, though, and this is where most of your wear is going to occur. You said you checked Walmart- that's where I get mine out here. Good luck.

I did some seaching on bob is the oil guy website (amazing site, check it out if you haven't) and read a report of M1 0w-20 causing more valve noise than M1 5w-30 extended performance (what i'm running now). kind of scared me away (anecdotal i know, but i figured protection-wise, you can't beat M1 EP).

If you want to order it online and want to spend the $$, then www.amsoil.com. You can also pay to be a preferred customer and get it at lower prices, just make sure you're going to order enough during the year to make up for it.

The valve noise is probably due to the thinner 20 vs 30 when engine hot. When I switched from 5-30 to 0-30 I didn't notice any increased valve noise. Bob the Oil Guy is a definite read.

90wt gear grease anyone? Hey manual says 5w30 thats what i have put in mine since day 1. Issue Your oil must meet or exceed what the manufacturer recommends. Dowwn the road if there is a problem the manufacturer does have the right to deny any and all claims. If anyone would read the manuals that comes with car it is stated that Toyota Motor Co of North America can reject any claims and void warranty anytime THEY see fit. UUUGGGHHH!!!!! Keep up with any and all receipts from services done even if you do them yourself.

If you change your oil at recommended intervals, you shouldn't see sludge. Period. Again, I would recommend reading Bob the Oil Guy's work on viscosity. Dude has the credentials, drink some coffee first, though:)

Well you have not read the official "TOYOTA OWNERS" site and the TSB issued by toyota on the 1GRFE as I can see. I use 5-20 synth, 16k kilometers oil changes.
