My dad has almost the same truck. It is a very good truck, never tried it off road and it wouldn't really seem all too well because of how stiff it seems. But overall a nice truck

Beware of salvage title. Could have been submerged in water or anything. Sometimes salvage titles are hard to get passed to be road worthy, it depends on your state & what is wrong with it.

Agreed, I'd be weary of the salvage title. Ask a lot of questions and go through the truck to see if there are any remaining signs of what happened to it. If it were me, I'd look for something without a salvage title (mostly because I don't know enough about them and how it could affect me).

Yea I would be careful of the salvage title. Try to get more info on that sometimes a salvage title can be something relatively minor. But without knowing why it was issued assume the worst.

If it has the 3.0L V6 then don't touch it.

    Only get a pre-Tacoma that has a 22re

    Ah okay.
    I'm guessing the 3.0 v6's are bad?

Pre-Tacoma 22re FTW....I don't know that the 3.0 v6's are bad...but I don't know anyone with a truck that age with that engine. I personally know of two Pre-Tacomas with the 22re...those engines seem to be darn near bullet proof...and relatively simple to work on...and in addition there are enough of them around that finding parts isn't that difficult...that last part from my friend at work who is still driving his 1987 that he bought new.

Yes. Toyota's worst engine. Unreliable, gutless, and much harder to work on compared to the 22re.

22re is such a simple and reliable engine, and when the time comes you can have them professionally rebuilt with installation for around $2,000.

:DToyota is a great vehicle to own! They are awsome in the snow and gas mileage is pretty dece[IMG]nt compared to other 4X4's. Reliable whether you take care of them or not. I have a 1997 Tacoma 4X4 for 4 years and now I will never buy anything else! Salvage titles are dangerous basically after you buy one if you ever try to trade in for another car atr the dealer, they would only give you about 500.00. In stating that, I wud try to find one without the Salvage title unless it was very minor damage!!

DON'T buy a truck in CA with a salvage title. I bought a 2nd gen 4 Runner 10 years ago that had all kinds of issues. Turned out the frame was bent. I did a title search on it & it turned out to have a CA salvage title. It had been totalled & sold at an insurance auction for parts. It was never intended to be fixed & put back on the road.
