Probably one of the greatest pistol's i've picked up. Accurate out of the box and just plain fun to shoot. Did you get a fake can with yours?

I ended up buying a gemtech for mine and had a local machinist turn a barrel adapter for me. Not going to spend $40+ on a threaded adapter. That's just ridiculous.

Yeah I love it! put about 250 rounds through it with out a single hitch. Yeah I got the fake can too. My buddy has one with a silencerco sparrow on it and that's what inspired me to get the gsg. I might buy his older sparrow off him.

Here he is taunting me to buy one, I just had to after this lol

I had to google Silencerco. Interesting looking baffle design they have there. The Gemtech for the GSG is awesome, but i've noticed it really, really doesn't care for lead. Gotta pony-up the $$$ for copper HVs.

You know if that thing is readily available? The Sparrow that is? Gonna have to hit up my local shop and see if they can get one. Quite interested in trying it out. Give's me an excuse to buy another GSG. :D

Yeah they are pretty easy to get, around here anyways. The new sparrow is really nice because you can just open it up and clean it out in seconds and it's all stainless steel so it's gonna last forever.

Militec. It's a metal conditioner/lubricant. Stays in the metal's pores after heating.

Look at STI, I've had/shot/carried Springfield, Colt, Kimber, Les Baer, and I believe STI makes the best gun for the money.

Grease sliding parts, lube rotating parts. I use TetraLube on all of my guns. It's a grease.

My open gun is based on an STI frame, and that's it. ALOT of their off-the-shelf pistols are pretty much garbage. Money better spent with Bill Wilson, though his aren't much better. That is, if you're out to tout an over-priced pistol with a name on it.

My Para Ordnance was a piece of shit when I got it (most are), and I regret paying full price. After rebuilding the whole damn thing with just the frame, MSH, slide and trigger being original, it shoots like none other, and i've taken it to competition with favorable results. But in the end, it's just the name of a company who throws parts together and calls it a "gun."

    Just my 2 cents there.

I use Tetralube liquid quite a bit, until the bottle tipped over and leaked most of the contents out on my bench. Just bought the grease, looks like a dirt magnet, we'll see how it goes.
My next lube experiement will be Mobil 1 motor oil and differential lube.
In re STI=garbage...that's the first I've heard of it.
I'll break it down tonight and report back.

My rifle bag fell victim to a bottle of tetra lube. The grease really isn't all bad, even in my neck of the woods.

The whole "STI = garbage" may be a bit if an over-statement on my part. They're not garbage, per se, if it's what someone is looking for. My own personal taste would have to be better than what I received, especially after dropping those kinda bills on something like that.

I've learned alot over the years, and only make my opinions based on first-hand experience. I've owned several STIs (of different "models" and calibers, never a 2011) and I've found several issues with each of them (though, this list goes for some other manufacturers as well, I hate them too, lol) like :

    • poorly fitted slide
    • poorly fitted extractor
    • someone put a revolver trigger in one *cough*sig*cough*
    • rough series 80 actions (quickly removed)
    • hammer to beaver tail contact (negates grip safety, doesn't it?)

I've grown to never judge anything like this out of the box, because if it were "perfect" for the price, i'd have never had to tear one down, and spend an addition few hundred $$$ on parts that should have come on it. That's not to say there aren't any good STIs out there, just my experience with them.

Be sure to report back on the lube options you're exploring. Might just be on to something headed that direction. Just curious, what will you be trying them on? Pistols, rifles, both?

After treating with militec, you can carry and fire it dry. I usually put a drop on the rails, barrel bushing, and hammer pivot when I shoot, but I carry it dry. It doesn't attract much lint when dry, but still cycles smooth, and clean up with a rag after shooting wet.
