I ordered my toytec 3" lift and TC UCAs so hopefully ill get em on soon. Now I gotta get new wheels and tires to fill 'er out. So Ive searched around and came to the conclusion that the goodyear duratracs were a very good all terrain tire, good mpgs, not too loud, and good in the snow. Plus, I think they look pretty cool too :D

For the wheels, its a much tougher choice since its basically what looks good and if itll fit. I want some black rims to go with my black truck and found the renegade 6s in flat black were pretty sick. My personal preference is more tire than more wheel, so Id like to go with 16s if that would be okay.

First question, will the 16s fit alright without too much rubbing/hitting the calipers or UCAs? or will the 17s be better? and for cost of factoring in wheel and tires as well, are the 16s or 17s less expensive? or is it negligible?

For the tires, are the duratracs a good choice? I will be doing a lot of highway driving, with trails/beaches every so often, but not a serious off roader. Also, Im in Maryland now so something good in snow would be nice for the winter. I see many positive reviews, but also hear good things about the nittos and BFGs.

Lastly, what would be the best place to get tires/wheels from? an online source or order at a store? any specific recommendations? Some said discount tire is good, but Im not in socal anymore and there are none around here :( Thanks everyone for the help!

My opinion is 17"s. I like the look of them. They are a little more money though. I think any a/t tire is decent. I went with the Toyo a/t which I don't think would be as good in the snow as a duratrac, but I have heard they are quieter and I have some michelin m/s on stock wheels to run in the winter. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply. you say 17s just for the look? I actually prefer the look of more tire tho. but you can barely tell the size difference from 16/17 anyways. so a 17 is more expensive but would the tires be cheaper for the same outside diameter? or am i completely off base..

Ive also been reading about the different ratings from c/d to e which has to deal with the sidewall thickness. I wont be doing tooo much off roading so a thinner one would suit me fine and save the mpgs and tire cost. But when i look for 285s they only come in e rating. Is this the only rating at that size? I dont know much about the ratings or sidewall thicknesses

I have the Renegade 6 in 16" because the tires are cheaper. I have 265/75/16 Duratracs fitting with no problem, I could easily clear 285's with just a little more lift but I want to keep my MPG's up. Check out my gallery for pics.

edit: My duratracs are C rated for softer ride and MPG's.

I ran 285 Duratrac's for a little, great in the snow! but started chunking on the trails

On your wheels make sure to get the right offset

you have an awesome truck! i definitely like the tire/wheel look! Hm thats good to know. So you think the 285s would clear with a 3" lift? I see you have 1.75?

you chose rating C..as opposed to what? I went on goodyears site and I couldnt rly find anything about the ratings or information about the tires. :( I agree with you in wanting a tire that gets good mpgs and a soft ride, though.

Thank you very much for the help!

Blacktacoma23, I love your truck! Ive been looking at it as inspiration :D I saw you had duratracs, they were around the same size as the 285 75 16, correct? Do you think they will clear on mine with a 3" lift? And now im lost with the ratings..ajohnson has Cs and you had Ds, does that mean yours were a little stronger? or thicker sidewall?

Well I wont be going off roading too much, maybe only 5% so hopefully I dont run into the chunking problem. And we do get a good amount of snow in the winter so I would rather have one tire all year, but thanks for the info.

Thanks for the props. I have Light Racing UCA's, Eibach coils, and 1/4" and 3/4" top plate spacers that I haven't installed yet. I might go with 285's in the future. I think if you off road and flex the suspension a lot you might have to trim slightly and chop the body mount, but thats only what I've read on TW.

I chose the C rating as opposed to the E rating. The E rated is heavier with a slightly firmer ride, but more durable than C rated.

I found that it is cheaper at discount tire than tire rack due to the shipping costs. I also will be getting the 285/70/17 duratracs when i get home. Really looking forward to it

ohhh man these are some siiick wheels!! they look really good with the duratracs too :D

Niice! Im not going to flex and off road too much. Mostly highway but I hit the beaches every so often and camp trails too. So i dont expect to trim much if at all.

For the sake of mpgs and ride quality, i think ill go with C rating as well! I dont need something bombproof but want the ride and mpgs so C will suit me just fine it seems. unless the D is better? haha ill figure it out. Thanks again for all the help!!

discount tire or discount tire direct? i wish i was still in socal because then i could just go to my local discount tire..there are 2 within 3 miles of my house... but now in maryland there isnt one for a few states!

If I were to get it online tho, where is a good place to get it shipped/mounted/installed? Should I go to my local dealer? My truck is a lease as of now (buying when the lease is up) and it comes with maintenance included. Or is there a better, more reputable place? So many places have terrible reviews but ive had good experiences taking my truck to the dealer for services. oh and I just checked and the dealer has the gsp road force balancer.

Sorry Man, don't hate me cause I'm beautiful.:D

I think most places have a very small stock and order from the factory when they need it. What's up with the factory not having them in stock?

Check the "Group Buy" section and look for DuraTracs. I ordered mine along with wheels and they mount and balance. The group buy is over but I think Matt might still be able to get you a great deal. Also if you're going Duratrac sign up for Treadlightly.org membership for $25 for 1 year and get $100 rebate.
    Cheers
