Thinking about painting entire interior

Entire Interior.. say that 5x fast!

But seriously, I am thinking about painting all of the grey interior panels ( door panel, shifter assembly, floor pieces, glove box, and bottom half of dash ) all in black. It would then only leave the head liner, carpet, and bench seat in grey.

Kinda running out of mods but i still have the bug, so i thought this would be a cool saturday project. Any comments / pics of it already?

 

Just my thougts here, idk how long that will hold up for in the heat of the summer, and the cold of the winter.

I thought about that as well, so i figured i would use Plasti-Dip.. stuff is very effective

 

I have had the interior professionally touched up. Shit came off withing 2 months. I had my center console and middle plastic done in black. SHit scrathces easy as hell and shows up horribly bad bleeding silver and grey through black.

I say dont do it. I even have had my vinyl armrest mod get gouged and will have to redo it. Going with REAL leather this time.

Avoid painting your interior whenever possible.

 

I painted my shifter bezel black with Krylon Fusion a few days ago... It came out like shit.

Now im looking for a new shifter bezel.

 

Spray it with brake caliper cleaner and use a high grit sand paper, you should be able to remove most of the paint

 

hmm... I guess its worth a shot. It can't get any more wose than it already is lol

 

Just thought of somethin else, not only heat and cold, but cleaning chemicals, people touching it all the time, accidentally kicking your door panel etc.


It just sounds like a quick road to ruining your interior and you being unhappy

 

Or some paint thinner.. give it a shot, save ur money! lol.

goo-gone will take off plasti-dip just in case you get over spray! i just found that out today.. it takes if off like a champ!

 

Was the piece originally silver? (I don't have an auto so I am just trying to remember)
If it's anything like the cup holder piece in the manual equipped trucks I think it is black plastic with a very thin silver paint on it. You should be able to sand it down, though the original factory coating and polish it up and have it be black. I did that with my cup holder.

As for painting the whole interior. I think it would look cool. Hope the plati-dip stuff hold up.

there apparently is special paint for vinyl.. vinyl paint. no experience with it though

 

I tried the Fusion and it cracked... is that what yours did? I got automotive paint and it just scratches more easily but holds.

BTW - small things here & there that are properly preped and don't get much wear are usually ok, but the whole thing....

Not a good idea IMHO....

 

i used Krylon Fusion-satin black, it came out more glossy then expected.
