Hey everyone, I have a center carrier bearing that needs replace, I was wondering can I just buy the center of it somewhere and switch it out instead of buying the whole support?

how can you tell the carrier bearing needs replacement? My truck makes a weird squeel now and then and someone told me thats what it could be. I've taken it to 3 mechanics with no luck...

Its the way it sounds while driving it my whole truck raddled, recently I took my whole driveshaft off with the carrier bearing and use only front wheel drive and my truck rides fine. The whole piece cost around a hundred so I want to know if anyone knows if anyone sells just the bearing so I can just switch that out and save some money.

For anybody looking for a more durable solution, Logan has done a lot of legwork and found a great option: You'll get more vibrations through the truck with this but it'll last.

Holy Shit that a ridiculous price! I think I only paid $20 for the one on my s10 and it looks basically the same just different mounting points.

That would def. resolve any bearing strength & longevity issue unless it vibrates so much thru the elimination of that cheezy rubber grommet (suppressor) that it too would eventually prematurely wear out, love the concept though..;)

My 71 pickup had a 2 piece driveshaft with the center bearing and in the 27 years I owned it I never changed a thing even beating the hell out of the drivetrain with the 454 in it didn't bother it. That truck is gone now, but I have a spare driveshaft in my garage that I may have to see if the local machine shop can cut and balance for me. It would eliminate the cardomon joint and move the slip joint farther up towards the center bearing but it just might be a bit better than the stock Toyota shaft and it doesn't look any bigger. Any GM 3/4 ton truck up to 1987 had a similar setup. I do like the solution at ttora though.
