Best time to swap to Synthetic

When would you say is the best time to swap the oil toyota crap for some MOBILE 1 5w30 I bought? Im at about 2000kms right now, any suggestions?

 

I would wait till around 5k km's

 

You can switch to synthetic oil at your first/next oil change. Doesn't your owner's manual say to use 5W-20 in the 2.7L engine?

 

thats what I kept reading but with no reason. Wasnt sure if there is an actual reason or just to get use out of the stock kind

 

well everything is still breaking in and you never want to break in a motor on synthetic. After 5k km's you should be good to go.

Not sure about you guys trucks in Canada. I have the same truck as you Max. Mine came with 0w-20 synthetic in it new and I switched to AMSOIL synthetic on my first oil change at around 4500 miles.

Your oil fill cap should say 0w-20. Toyota states you can run 5w-30 for 5000 miles if 0w-20 is not available but says that you should switch back to 0w-20 at the next oil change.

I have the V6 and I plan to go to mobil 1 5w-30 at 10k miles or the THIRD oil change...changed at 3k, then next at 6k, third at 10k and then every 5k...currently using a puroilator (sp) filter and quater state...the local FLAP (friendly local autoparts store) had a deal, 5 quarts quaker state, puroilater filer for $15, so I got two oil change sets.

Heck, YOU CAN even use it during break-in!

Now days ALL oil is reasonably good and can be used! Just change it at the recommended intervals.

If you think the toyota oil is crap, then you best throw out your Mobil 1. Toyota oil is Mobil Synthetic.

 

25k or 2 years... whenever the Toyota Care free oil changes end.

Incorrect. It came with the same stock oil they would use in a little Yaris. So therefore Im thinking its not the best for my motor

 

Thanks for the info. However, from my research it looks like Toyota oil may indeed be Mobil but Toyota does not use fully synthetic from the factory. It is a mineral based oil.

 

Toyota uses 0W-20 synthetic from the factory; hence why the new 10K OCI standard.

Hmmm....Toyota's website contradicts you.

Your truck requires OW-20 Synthetic oil.....Toyota uses Synthetic oil from the factory on most of their vehicles that require a 10K OCI. Reference your oil cap or manual that came with your truck. I'm fairly certain the 2.7 comes with Synthetic.

Doesn't matter. You can switch now. Down in the states, Toyota now runs synthetic as the stock oil in the 4-cyls. Is that not the case in Canada? It may not be, because my understanding from the dealer is they switched to synthetic from the factory for emissions and MPG standards purposes. The V6 is one of the few vehicles Toyota kept stock on dino oil, not because the engine needs it, but because it just didn't make a huge difference in helping them meet the the government's overall MPG standards for a manufacturer's fleet.
