    Hi,

I am a new member and I will purchase a new Tacoma in June or July. I currently own a 2008 Corvette and I am trying to decide if I will trade it or keep it and buy the Tacoma without a trade-in.

I will purchase a Barcelona Red, Double Cab version with 4WD. I have forgotten all of the packages but I want the sport seats and locking differential. I think I found that I want one that is basically loaded and the sticker price is between $33,000 and $34,000.

I really want an audio system that allows me to fully control my iPod. I don't care about the six CD feature since I don't bother with CDs.

It appears that you can't get a factory unit that provides a full screen (like a NAV screen) to list playlists and selections.

Is there a consensus on a good replacement for the factory audio system?

Is there anything in particular that I should know about this truck?

    TIA

    Response:
    1) I paid $29,250 OTD for an Off Road TRD Double Cab Short Bed V6. Seems to be about the going rate.

    2) See if EnTune from Toyota is an option yet. It's their new system that sync's up with smart phones and includes Pandora, Google maps, and any other app offered by smart phones.

    3) Biggest difference I remember between Sport and Off Road was that the Sport model, if memory serves me correctly, does NOT lock all four wheels during 4WD, but the Off Road version does. Can't remember if this is solely accomplished via A-Trac or not. Either way, it was the deciding factor for me.

    Hope this helps

    Oh, and Welcome!

    Thanks for the replies.

I considered a similar Kenwood for my Vette. They seem to be good units.

$29K for a new Tacoma would be a good deal to me.

I know this may sound like a dumb question but coming from the sports car world I don't know anything about 4wd. Here in Central Arkansas we get a little snow each year. I want as much help as I can get with that. So 4wd drive is better if all four wheels are locked rather than independent? This is what the locking rear differential is all about?

I think it only locks the rear wheels. But on the new models you will have ATRAC.

Welcome from Nebraska. I traded in my 2006 Dodge Ram SRT10 for this and only time I miss the SRT10 is when some little rice rocket is revving it up at me.

My reading/research here is that the Sport model has a higher chance of getting stuck in the snow because there is no front end locking mechanism. With the A-Trac system, if one wheel spins, the ABS kicks in, forcing the power to remain with the wheel having more traction. no guarantee of not getting stuck, just reducing the odds of getting stuck.

I'm sure Sport owners will now refute some of what I say as this is just my conclusion from researching here.

I've had a few rice rockets revving at me. After about 2 seconds I can't hear them anymore. :D

I intend to go by the dealership this afternoon and take a test drive. I'll ask about the different packages and let you know what they say.

    Again, thanks for the replies.

I went to the dealership and they did not have a single TRD on the lot. When I first contacted him he said "oh yeah we have them, it is a common build." He was referring to the fact that I sent him very specific information on what I wanted.

So I took a very short test drive in a no frills double cab 4x2.

I will see about finding what I want and test driving it. Another dealer here shows one in stock but I have heard that they will advertise that even if it is not in stock as long as they can get if from another dealer.
