 I sure hope that first line is a joke or hyperbole. If not, you do realize "the 45" wasn't around back then, right? If anything, it was probably closer to .50-.75 caliber...

Mediocre story. I wonder how many NEW people are buying guns, versus people with guns buying additional weapons. That would be a more interesting statistic.

Now I just have to come home and buy my next guy :D

I think people are wising up to our economic situation. The economy will continue to worsen, criminals will become more desperate at the same time the local funds for police are drying up. But ultimately our safety lies in our own hands, always has and always will.

I am guilty of the gun purchase increase. lessee,,5 total since last December. Also signed up for my CCW permit.

The right to keep and bear arms is being infringed upon,,whether you like it or not. Been happening for years, but the real crackdown just recently started.

Price of ammo has jumped 3-fold since late 09.

Why is every post political? I was recently thinking about buying a gun so i could 4 wheel to a cool place and pop some rounds off. I had no misconceptions of owning a gun to defend myself if the country went to shit, some people are just too paranoid.

Actually, the earliest metal cartridge Colt SAAs ("the gun that won the west") were chambered in .44-40.

A good friend of mine recently purchased new Colt SAA chambered in .44-40 with a 5 1/2 barrel-$1300.

I have one of the original Ruger Vaqueros (Colt SAA reproduction) with a 5 1/2 barrel, and chambered in .45 Long Colt. But I paid a whole lot less than $1300!

    oil change...
I read an interesting thread the otherday on ar15.com about how our economy can/will take a major dive. How the feds are going to print our way out of debt, driving the value of the dollar WAY down, and the world leaders not accepting the dollar as the world reserve for oil anymore...once that happens we will be in shit creek with it raining more shit.

    http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=17&t=646055

Kind of off topic of gun sales...I did contribute to the gun sales though :D buying and selling

We all need to educate ourselves as to what could happen to our country. Yes the Federal Reserve through its bailouts and Quantative easing programs has created alot of new dollars out of thin air. When you inflate the money supply the value of the dollars in existence goes down. It is simple supply and demand. Now there are more dollars chasing the same amount of goods. You are seeing prices going up all over the world because the dollar is the world reserve currency. Oil is also bought and sold in dollars. So when the value of the dollar goes down the price of goods go up. That is a big reason why gas is going up and food and all commodities. The Fed will continue to inflate the money supply and prices will continue to go up. If they keep doing it, we could risk hyperinflation, meaning prices will inflate until eventually the dollar is not even worth the paper it is printed on. You think 4 dollar gas is bad, theoretically we could have 4,000 dollar gas.

I agree completely with the need to educate ourselves- which is why I am going to make sure no one is mis-led by your post. What you said about inflation and hyperinflation is theoretically true. Reality for 2009 and 2010, however, is that inflation is well under control. I agree that the government is making what seems like poor decisions regarding fiscal policy, but let's keep the doomsday stuff limited to factual information, when it comes to 'educating' people.

Although I grew up small game hunting with 20G shot gun, I have spent most of my adult life without a gun. However, the past several years both my wife and I have seriously considered a hand gun and are actively looking. Although we are fairly ignorant when it comes to hand guns, we have both been raised with guns. So if my rambling shows it, feel free to correct me.

We have narrowed our choices to the following three 9mm:

    1) Six Sauer
    2) Glock 23
    3) Beretta

    Your thoughts or suggestions?

Well yes i do, seein as gas prices were down last year, house prices are still down, vehicle purchase prices have been down... look, im not tryin to get in the way of those who want to believe the 'sky is falling' bullshit from glen beck and other nut jobs, but someone posted something and stated their desire that we be educated, so i figured i'd suppliment his post with some actual facts...

And this ties into the subject- as someone had complained in a previous post about rediculous ammo prices. Where do you think these crazy ammo prices are coming from? They're not the result of inflation, but of paranoid, hyperinflation, Obama-fearing folks who think got scared into buying up all the ammo they could get their hands on.

Supply and demand. people are out of jobs, thats why house prices are down, no one can afford these new homes. Drive around and look at how many homes are for sale. go to a nice neighborhood, and see how many of those are for sale!
Car sale prices are down bc sales are down, less people are buying cars.

There are two reasons ammo prices are up, one being supply and demand, two there was a huge add on natchez saying that all ammo prices would be raising 5-15% due to the cost of materials goin up.
