    Just purchased and it checks out really solid mechanically. I want to do some preventative maintenance to keep it going. Came with some records, mostly oil changes. I was thinking of having a trans service done and new spark plugs. Any suggestion would be helpful. V6 auto crew sport short bed 2wd. Thanks

    When I bought my 06 PreRunner it had 70k on it so I had the trans, rear end, radiator and brake lines flushed and the spark plugs changed. I know it was a bit early on some of it but in my opinion it's a cheap preventitive. I also ran a can of 44K through the gas tank from BG.

    Thanks. I have a mechanic friend who is Ford factory trained and 21 years working for Ford dealer service who suggested I take it to the dealer for trans service. It also needs a battery and I've had Interstate in my other vehicles but have been told that the Toyota True Start is a good bat. They have them on special here for $119 Any thoughts?

    I would swap out the water pump, belt and tensioner with new ones. Flush radiator, lube the yokes and for kicks and giggle repack the wheel bearings. Other than that you got banging ass truck. My bro has a 2005 too and it's well over 250,000. He had it since new and have always used it as a truck.

    When Chompster said belt and pulley, he was probably referring to the serpentine belt and tensioner pulley, not the timing chain. I too would replace the serpentine belt if it looks like it's needed. And it would be a good time to check the rear brake shoes. They should be getting close to needing to be replaced. Oh, and definitely flush out the brake fluid! By 100K miles, I had a lot of air bubbles in the lines.

    LEER Shell with dome lights operated with 3 way switches, aux backup lights with relay and 3 position switch, modified wiring to compass/temp display and clock to include switch that disables dimming function (poor man's DRL solution), Scan Gauge 2
    I would be real careful about "flushing" anything that you don't know the history on. A drain and fill only on the transmission would be safer. Sometimes they can flush out something that was holding the trans together.

    Definitely change the plugs and the gear oil in the rear diff. Consider waiting to change the coolant until you can afford to replace the radiator. I am planning to wait till 80 or 100K and then replace my coolant and radiator at the same time. I've seen too many plastic tank radiators fail. That would be a bad thing on an all aluminum engine. I don't think the wheel bearings are packable on these. I could be wrong though.

    I have had real good luck with NAPA Legend series batteries. Never had one go on me, and if I ever need one warrantied, there is a NAPA in damn near every town in america.
