What to do when being PULLED OVER!

I read an article about a highly successful traffic lawyer and traffic tickets.
At the end of the article they asked him what someone should do
when being pulled over. He stated the following.

1. Pull over as soon as you can to a safe location.
2. Roll down your windows.
3. If at night, turn on your interior lights.
4. Shut off the car.
5. Put your hands on top of the steering wheel.

So this past week i had the chance to do these steps, at night.
I haven't had a ticket for quite a long time,
and im glad to report i was given a warning to slow down,
in which i thanked him.

Seeing how dangerous being a police offiicer can be
I believe that the above steps greatly reduces the risks
involved when a cop has to pull someone over.
And by showing him how much i cared for his safety,
I believe he showed me his graditude with just a warning.

Even if i get a ticket, I will still do the same steps just for their safety!

 

Also always be respectful! If you give attitude you will get a ticket!

And don't forget to hide all your shit under your friends seat. Make sure you get your stories stiright too.

 

And have your license and registration ready. Speeds things up a little.

There's a possibility the cop didn't get a stable radar reading.

 

id rather not be moving around too much in my truck right after pulling over. might look suspicious to the cop.

when they ask for it i tell them its in the glove box and ask if its cool if i reach for it.

ive been pulled over 5 times for various things and have been given a warning each time. id like to believe the way i acted during the stop had something to do with it.

 

I wonder if Concealed carry guys are more likely to get a ticket since the cop is gonna be on edge right away.

 

Generally I just hop out and drop to the ground with my hands behind my back and start crying.
Saves a lot of time.

 

Also don't run... If you think you can lose him in a neighborhood you definitely can't. And don't jam on the brakes when he gets right behind you to try to make him hit you. It usually pisses him off more.

 

One of two things usually happens-
1) The cop never knows because the carrier is not required to volunteer that information...so it's a non issue.
2) The carrier does (or is required to) notify the cop and they will either confirm the gun is safe and/or make it safe and then proceed more or less as normal. All the anecdotal evidence I've heard is they seem cooler with the folks who carry- usually good people trying to do the right things.

 

I guess I kinda lumped that in with the "has to notify" crowd. The cop will ask if he has a reason to be concerned. But even when they DO find out you have a weapon- The folks who has had experience tell me that they are usually pretty cool

 

EDIT:

I only roll down the window where from the side where he is approaching, and only half way. And I don't turn off the vehicle either, but I do put it in park. If he wants it off he'll tell me to turn it off.

I also do the following:

6. Obey all lawful commands.
7. Don't talk. If he wants to talk fine, but if he wants me to talk, I instead say silent and give him a letter from my attorney that says he is not allowed to ask me any questions and all questions must be directed to my attorney.
8. Tell him to have a nice day at the end of it all.

 

At least in Missouri, they know when they run your driver's license. I've been in the passenger seat when it was done. The Patrolman was cool about the gun - in fact he just told me to keep it in my pocket even when he asked me to come back and sit with him in his car. Definitely got a ticket for 87 in a 70, but he was cool about the whole thing - I guess he was confidnet that he would be quicker with the Glock 22 on his hip than I would be with the .38 in my pocket if it came to that. I was also in a shirt and tie, so that probably helped his nerves.

 

Step 1: Adjust EMS jacket on passenger seat to display flashers.
Step 2: Wait for Police to arrive at window.
Step 3: Thank him for letting you go.


Shit works every time...

Hey just a random question for anybody who might know, when they ask "Do you know the speed limit here?" If you know it should you be honest, or just say you thought it was [insert approximately your speed here]?

 

Or make sure you 'drop' your military ID on your lap when you go for your license (for you military guys). Unless you did something really dumb, chances are you'll be let off.

 

im sure if you said the speed was closer to yours than the posted the cop would think you are an ass
