TIRES??

I wanna get some BFG KM2, or Nitto Trail Grapplers which should i get for my 99 tacoma reg. cab

wow.... those are two entirely different spectrums of tire choices there. One is a moderate all-terrain and the other is a mud tire. Terra grapplers are cheaper and they will last a little longer. They also don't need to be rotated as much as the mud tires. Trust me...... mud tires NEED to be rotated ALOT. The km2's are going to give you plenty of traction in offroad situations and will fling some mud considerably. All depends on what you want and where you drive your truck. If it is driven 90% onroad.... get the terra's. If you offroad more than most people, get the km's. Just my opinion though. But if you do get the km2's, rotate, rotate, rotate. I have maxxis buckshot mudders on mine and I don't rotate them as often as I need to and I can definately feel the cupping and the spalding while driving down the road and it makes me cringe by the thought of my poor truck vibrating/fast shaking so much. Hope this helped.

Having driven both, It is going to come down to longevity. The BFGs WILL last longer, the nittos are a VERY soft tire. However, the nittos dig a bit better, and MUCH MUCH quieter on the street. They don't even sound like an all-terrain, let alone a mud terrain. they are SUPER quiet. I was absolutely amazed the first time I drove a truck with these on it... I couldn't believe a mud tire was this quiet. The BFG's, while not overwhelmingly loud, aren't exactly quiet either.

If it were me, I'd go with whichever one is cheaper. Noise level isn't that important to me, and they both have their + and - off road. I believe the nittos to be a bit better over the bfg, but for 99% of people, the bfg would be more than adequate.

 

Were they on the same Tacoma? Did you notice any fuel mileage difference between the two?

My vote goes for the KM2's but i like both, but i think the BFG's lasting longer would sell them to me.

Be prepared to tank a signifigant hit on your gas mileage with the KM2s

The best tire I have ever driven with is the Wild Country XTX Sports. I have well over 60,000 miles on them with still over 1/4" of tread left. They are stepped treads with sipes. They are far more advanced than any tire I have seen. We just put a set on our silverado with new wheels. They ride pretty smooth. They are a little stiffer (not a lot), but they are quiet.

 

Actually one set was on a tacoma, and the nitto's were on a tundra. I work at a dealership, and installed the tires after adding a lift kit. Both sets were 35's and equally heavy as hell.

They are going to weigh about the same, so either way you are going to notice a slight drop in fuel mileage. It's not going to be a huge difference like many people will try to tell you. If you calculate your mileage by the tripometer divided by gallons, it WILL be a huge difference, but you will also have to take in to account the size variation (and rolling diameter) between the tires. For example a 31" (stock) tire to a 33" tire is about a 6% difference in rolling diameter. So you would take your miled divided by gallons, times the 6% difference for accurate calculations. You'll see that it's not as big of a deal as most people will tell you. It just SHOWS a big difference in your tripometer.
