What barrel length do you recommend I was thinking 16in. but if i wanna shoot longer ranges wouldnt a 20in. be a good compermise for varmints and screwing around with my buddys who have 16 carbine rifles. I'm not really sure i dont want always have to shoot off a bipod cause of weight. I found some upper that were not sold out now i want to start narrowing it down. Sorry if i ask alot of questions.

    16" should be plenty long.

    (thats what she said)

get that upper that packerfan posted! or if your not in a super hurry wait till they get some others in stock and grab one. sign up for email notification and they will let you know when they are in stock. Ive heard of them selling out within hours of getting resupplied though.

A 16" barrel will out preform most average shooters' capabilities.

I know you have a DPMS lower and that's fine but stay far far away from DPMS and Olympic. Armalite is middle of the pack so to speak.

General rule is that if you see them a lot at gun shows or your local sporting goods store they are probably bottom of the totem pole. I.E. bushmaster, dpms
smith and wessons are more common now and those are quality but I dont think you can buy just an upper from them

Bushmaster is far better than DPMS... their barrels are fine too. Unless something has changed dramatically there is nothing wrong with a Bushmaster barrel. Thir ultralight 16" is a very good lightweight barrel.

You dont need a 20" barrel. If you need that much length you are shooting over 300 yards... if you are shooting over 300 yards you want a different caliber becasue .223 is woefully poor with wind past 300.

Just put together your pennies and buy anyone of the LWRC rifles/uppers and you will not be disappointed. I just ordered my M6A3 DMR in 5.56, I should take delivery by Friday maybe next Monday at the latest.

Hope you like it let me know how it shoots. I'm thinking maybe a 20 in. barrel since unless I go home to PA I can't plink around in random fields then save up and build another ar 15 if I really enjoy my first project.

Bushmaster does sell their uppers seperate and if you do want a 20in they offer the Predator with a 1/8twist. i have one and with hand loaded 68gr BTHP's i can easily keep a 1/2 inch group at 100yds. They are a little heavy but balance nicely.

Yea iv hunted with it for the last 2 years and love it. Fixed stock with houge grip and 2 stag trigger. Have no problem shooting ground hogs out to 400 yards. Shot 52-69gr but seemed to like 60gr v-max and 68gr match HP. works wonders on deer too. Look at some of the other Bushmaster uppers, most come with carries and everything you need.

The gun is all stock, execpt burris FFII 6.5-20x50 and bi-pod. The gun is set from factory like that and you can find them for around $1000.

ADCO has a few Daniel Defense barrels in stock. Light-weight profile 14.5"s and 16" M4 profiles. Both carbine gas systems I believe.

If I was building a new upper, I'd personally hold out until a good quality 5.56, Chrome lined, 1:7 or 1:8, 16" mid-length gas system barrel is in stock.
