I guess it's just a crappy system. My speakers in the 2010 Taco double cab always sound bassey or muffled.

My 05 Tacoma stereo was better than the 11 Tacoma. With the windows down on the highway, I can't hear the stereo. I was wondering if you can hook an amp up to the stock stereo?

Yeah, just tested out my new HU with aftermarket speakers and the difference is HUGE. With the stock HU you can't crank the volume that loud without the bass automatically going down and really annoying crackling.

Stock HU was garbage in my truck...I had to have the volume maxed out and it wasn't even audible with the windows down. I trashed it and got a new Pioneer HU after a month, and have been very happy ever since. The volume on this unit goes from 0 to 30, and volume 12 is louder than the stock system was maxed out on 50. Next, I'm upgrading the speakers which obviously weren't designed to withstand playing music at a much higher level.

I have the JBL system in mine and it gets plenty loud for me....even when the wife isn't in my truck (she hates the stereo being too loud). But then again, all I pretty much play anymore is country with a little bit of rock every once in a while. I doubt I'll ever get the itch to upgrade the stereo system any time soon.

Only thing im disappointed with is how loud it is when I have the phone or iTouch plugged in but I know what the problem is with that.

My JBL bumps my D&B pretty hard. Quite satisfied with it.
