Never ever run...to my knowledge in probably every state
(province for my Canadian Neighbors) it turns a misdemeanor into a felony (fleeing/evading...or whatever the legal wording). ....and you can't outrun the radio.

 

Actually, here in south florida, if you're being pulled over for a minor traffic violation, and you run, you will look back and notice you arent being chased. Most depts. down here have a 'no chase' policy, unless the person fleeing has just committed a felony or has a felony warrant. (this doesnt apply to foot chases- just cars).

You will however, find that when you get home, the popo will be there waiting for you...

 

That makes a lot of sense...especially in highly populated areas.

When you get home to find the popo waiting for you, is there an additional charge for not stopping for the minor traffic violation? Just curious...my neighbor's an AK State Trooper...I think my information for AK is valid.

 

I wish that our departments here in socal had a similar policy. I have always advocated as much. One who flees a traffic stop does not necessarily pose a threat. When you pursue a suspect, you may create a threat that did not previously exist. I have yet to see a department back off and catch up with an offender later, felony stop or not.

 

Yeah, the police dont have time to sit at your house and wait for you just to hand deliver your citation- you're taking a felony ride for resisting arrest

 

Its all about $$$ down here. If Joe Blow runs a stop sign and refuses to pull over, and cops give chase and end up Tbone-ing a minivan and killing a little kid, the dept. is gunna be paying for that family's new mansion, so instead, they just let em run. All about liability...

It's been my expierence that being respectful & courteous will generally lead to warnings, unless you were doing something really bad. The only exception I have found is when the officer is stopped, hidden, with radar (speedtrap). The only thing that officer is doing is looking for speeders, moving violations, etc. So the likelihood of him/her pulling out, catching up to you, pulling you over, then giving you a break, is much less. If they take the time to pull out and pull you over, they're probably going to give you a ticket, IMO.
I do however have a short story to share about how my Brother-in law got out of a ticket, on his way home from work. He was going like 65 in a 45, got pulled over, and told the office the truth. When asked why he was in such a hurry, he told the officer, " I'm trying to get home because I really have to take a sh#t and I don't want to sh#t my pants." Once the officer stopped laughing, he told him to drive slower next time and sent him on his way.

THIS TOTALLY WORKS!

Back in HS, i was on the way out to my parents cabin. I was doing something like 15 over. Beautiful sunny afternoon, windows down, blonde in the passenger seat. Just so happened that a WI Trooper was sitting over a hill, clocked me and came after me. My geographical knowledge (Rest stop, 2 miles ahead around a low swooping right corner) and my amazing acting skills got me out of the ticket. I squirmed and pleaded, he followed us to the Rest Stop, i 'had-to-shit' ran into the bath room, stayed for about 10 minutes. Flushed a few times for good measure. Walked out 'relieved' and the kind trooper bid me adieu.

I sort of feel bad about it, but I did have to pee a little bit, so it wasn't a total farce.

Now a days my Taco and me really like cruising about 65 (mpg's, adulthood etc.) so i don't speed (most MN hwy's are between 55-70mph.)

First thing I always do is reach into teh bag of carrots and offer one to the Mountie's horse , that usually lightens up the mood a bit .
