Anyone have a miracle cure for shoes that could be described as biohazard? I have a pair of Nike Frees that I run in and they are God awful. Will just a thorough wash kill the microbes that found refuge in my shoes, or is something more drastic in line?

Toss them in the wash machine. Add some baking soda to the wash along with the soap. Consider adding a small amount of bleach to the water too .. add it AFTER the washer is full (so it dilutes). Maybe 1/8 of a cup. Most shoes shouldn't fade / lose color with just a small amount of bleach. But it will help kill bacteria. Use warm water.

Let them thoroughly dry .. if you don't trust the dryer, let them air dry in full sun (UV works wonders). Consider shaking in a deodorizing foot powder (one that contains aluminum chloride hexahydrate in the ingredients) before they are fully dry.

Replace the footbeds. Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch in the bottom of the shoe before adding new footbeds.

    These things MIGHT help. :)

for some of my mt biking buddies put their gear in a tub of water and some simple green and let it set for a while, then wash. it gets the STANK out.
but honestly, if your shoes smell that bad, I am sure they have some decent miles on them and a replacement should be in the future.
