Oil change

Hey everyone i have 100k miles on my tacoma 2.7l and am about to do an oil change soon. What type of oil should i put in now? 5w 30??, 10w 30?, High Mileage?

I highly appreciate your help

 

+1. I believe that engine calls for 5w30.

 

Amsoil 0w30. End of story, anything else is a waste.

 

I'd go with whatever the manual recommends!.

Synthetic at this point and time may give you some "leak" issues.This is where synthetic has received some bad publicity....when folks put it in older engines.Some folks have experienced leaks when they switch their older vehicle to synthetic...this is due to years of using "dino" oil...the acidic "build-up" creates degradation of the gaskets.When synthetic oil is used ,the owner sometimes experiences oil leaks when they did not have them before.....the reason for this is because synthetic oil has better flow characteristics than dino oil...it is not more "slippery"...this is still oil,not an oil additive like slick-50 and the like.Stay with the dino oil and change it often.Folks also get into the mind set that since they are running synthetic,they can run longer than usual...this is not the case...these are still internal combustion engines....synthetics are actually used for EXTREME CONDITIONS,I know, someone will chime in and refute every word that has been typed....oh well.

but what about if its been running on synthic for whole life/before the 100,000 mile mark?

 

100k for a Toyota truck engine isn't that much, actually. Just use whatever you've been using.

 

oh ya i know.i was just asking.i have 151,800 and running mobile 1 syn(5w-30w) with mobile filter( i freaking drop like 60 bucks each oil change) and i change it at every 2500 miles. mabey a little over kill

 

How are you spending 60$? I get my oil at wal mart for 24$ for 5 quarts and I order filters online, I got 3 toyota oem filters for like 18$.

 

at oreilys(only place in town) its 9.99 per quart(but i have some connects and get it for 7.00 a quart) and mobile 1 filter is like 19.99 ( but i get it for 15.00). then i buy restore oil additive( supposley garenteed to restore power/seal piston rigs) thats like 7.99 so that add up to 57 then plus tax takes me over 60

The filler cap has some numbers on it that indicate the viscosity you should use. Any brand with the API-SM specification is fine: Castrol, Valvoline, Pennzoil... whavever your flavor. I used to insist on name brand oils but modern oils are all high-quality. So I will use whatever is on sale, including Peak (NAPA brand), O'Reilly brand oils, and Flag. They are totally fine because they have the API logo and the SM classification. The best kind of oil is the kind that's changed reguarly, that's most important. Never miss an oil change.
