TRDfly has a point. Something better is always going to come out that you do not or cannot own. If you spend any considerable time in your car you really need to like being in that car day to day. For 3 years I have loved every minute of my Tundra, but now it is not practicle for my future and I am moving to a Taco. The only person who can make you happy is you, so take the hit and get what you want to really be in.

In college I drove a Honda Prelude. During that period I got very involved with Mustangs and racing. I wanted a 'Stang for a number of of years, but it wasn't practicle at the time, so I just enjoyed my friends. When I graduated I took a corporate job and decided I need a corporate car, so I sold the Prelude and bought an Audi A4. Once again, loved this car, but over the next year my longing for a 'Stang came back hard-core. I wasn't driving what I truely wanted, so I sold it and got a Mustang Cobra. I never thought about another car again for a long long time.

    Do what feels right!!!

Your pot hole discussion is fascinating.

Should you take into consideration the rebound rate of the spring? At what rate would the unsprung suspension spring press the wheel/tire combo into the hole? You are assuming free fall characteristics which is not the case. We need a measurement of how fast a coiled suspension spring unloads. Additionally, most vehicles designed to travel at that velocity would exhibit substantial down force at that speed which would also contribute to the tendency of the wheel to be forced into the hole. Depending on the side wall of the tire and the fact that the rebound from hitting the edge of the pot hole would be up and back, the stress of the impact would likely crumple the suspension should the wheel fall below the tires ability to absorb the shock. (or pop or get cut from the edge of the hole) 3000lb car at 150 mph = X force impact into the suspension?

Well if you do not need to haul; just get about 500 hp close to the ground or with wings and be happy,

Hmm I Currently Drive A 2006 WRX with some mods and love the fact you can smash the pedal and get out of a corner without much tire squeal. Yes the car is all fun, hauls A$$ and it can haul a bunch of stuff as it is a wagon but it gets me in a bunch of trouble, I just like to drive it fast. No matter where I am it feels like I have to drive it like a canonball run---. I'm constantly worring that I might chip the paint, hit a big bump, get it stolen, get a door ding or get the interior dirty with stuff I like to haul such as bikes tools etc.

Yes it is for sale and I'm in the market for a Tacoma.

I totally understand a truck is no way like a car and I would never expect it to be.

Trucks just look cool and they really don't date themself nearly as bad as a car.

After all those years of driving 'sporty' cars - no wonder you're disapppointed.

Buyers Remorse is YOUR fault....not the trucks fault.

Once you buy a truck and use it for what it's intended (hauling, towing, offroad) - you'll never be without one. It ain't a race car! Buy a corvette to race around in!!

He is just venting as he said. I am curious though to the original poster logic in thinking a truck would compare to your old civics?

That is at 2 different ends of the spectrum. I never would compare a truck to a performance car. My M3 has more parts than god and will eat Ferrari's and Ford GT's any day. I would never expect a truck to do that at all.

Sorry to bring a old thread up. Just got me wondering what he thought the trucks would do.

i actually compare my taco to my crotch rocket quite often...i picked up a new sprocket for easier wheelies last week for the bike and have since been trying to find the sprocket on my taco so i can do wheelies in my truck too ;)...but how do i get my truck to do 177mph?

    LOL

    Well if you want 170

Turbo, Forged internals, 8LB boost +, make some aerodynamic mods, and reaer wheel drive only.

What is the stock gearing limited too? If it has a 4.10 diff then you will need to drop it to like a 3.61 to hit more speed.

As for wheeles. Wheel y bars and a lot of weight in the very back of the truck HAHA

haha, funny thing is that i'm looking into a turbo right now for the taco. i doubt i'll be rebuilding the motor unless it gets messed up from a measly 5lbs of boost, but if i did rebuild it would be forged everything, and pass on that 8lbs, i'd be running 15  my truck already is only rwd too lol

as for the sprocket thing, i still havent found the one on my truck. i actually havent even put the one on my bike yet either.

as a wise farmer friend of mine said over the summer, the true key to wheelies is fat chicks :D any bike will do a wheelie and after i get my TSB done i should be able to fit a few fatties in the back to try doing wheelies...

My first car was a 1995 T100, extended cab with a V6. One of the best trucks on the road still! The thing had no mods, no crazy stickers or anything. But for some silly reason it was the loudest V6 3.4 liter on the planet. You start it up in the morning and man you would piss people off. I don't know why it was or even care. My dad had it as his daily driver and never did anything to it. Also it would get 500 miles a tank if you would stay at 70 mph on the free way. Then i decided to move up in the world. Buy a Subaru WRX Sti 2005. With all the bells and whistles. Badass little car! Fast, strong, good gas mileage and looked nice. Problem was i wasn't happy. I went from a bigger than average midsize truck to a little four door car. I loved the utility of the truck and the idea of sitting up high. Also i had a means of moving big stuff or moving myself from place to place without borrowing a truck. Now i had a little four door pocket rocket that would be able to outrun alot of things on the road but i wasn't feeling it. Not to mention where i was living at the time had a major flooding of the roads and i was really afraid of swamping my car out. My buddy was following me in my old T1OO not with a care in the world. Hmm so after owning the STI for a month i went over to the toyota dealership and checked out the new Tacomas. Now this was more to my liking. I took a hit on the car and bought myself the 4x4 trd sport double cab, v6 beast that i have today. I was immediately happier with the fact i could haul my motorcycle, couches, washer and dryers without a thought. Also carry four people comfortably on a long road trip with all of our junk in the bed. So what i am saying is chuck your truck and buy yourself a civi si. It makes you happy so do it.

Are you guys kidding, Ok go find yourself a 2JZ motor. This will get you a pretty good bang for your buck to say the least. Drop that into your beast and you won't be disappointed.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
Ok TuRDTaco, whats with the bowtie, jokes? Actually nice sounding pipes on your taco, who's muffler set up is that and about what rpm does is start to growl?

Now, being favorable to both bowties and Fix or Repair Daily vehicles and some older GM products I have to say if you are old enough to remember the Shelby GT 350 and the sweet sound it had, even with the buckboard ride. Wouldn't it have been nice to get one an put it away? They are worth there weight in gold and in any condition as long as there legit, numbers wise.
I was up to a car night at a ice cream shop a month ago and all the great cars from the 60's were there as well as lots of 40's coupes that were all tricked out. Too bad we could not make our taco's sound like those.

haha i don't have anything against chevy's, i'd just rather have the problem circled on a ford so i know how to fix it haha :D i'm a mustang guy tho, and i dont like the majority of camaros, which is why i'm a ford guy!

as far as my exhaust goes, it's a makeshift muffler-shop special! i removed the rear two catalytic converters and straight-piped it, then cut off the stock exhaust underneath the passenger seat, welded on a 12" long perforated glasspack tube and turned the exhaust out the side just before the rear passenger side wheel and put the stainless tip on. at the shop that did it, i only pay for parts and twenty bucks for their troubles cuz i used to work there and they are family friends, so i only have $100 into it and the tip itself was $50! i'd like to think i'm a bargain shopper haha

ok my $0.02 I've had more cars than I feel like typing so I'll hit the high points, 1969 Chevelle SS 617hp at wheels 427 biggie block (still have) , 1993 3 rotor RX-7, 1997 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R 152hp 190+mph easy, TACOZILLA 383 stroker 450hp and of course like 4 other taco's including my 2.7 L 4cyl driver...oh yeah and a 1989 toyota 4x4 converted to diesel using a 1L diesel that TOYOTA made in 1982 (rub it in the cut 007 taco it will feel better) if you think a civic si is any type of sports car...you have never driven a sports car..like oh say a 350 hp rx7...2nd if you think a tacoma is boring you've never ridden in or driven any other brand of newer truck. my girlfriend wanted a 2001 ford explorer sport trac (hauls the pups) and we had alittle race...my 4cyl out ran her 4.0 V6 ...now I am not a fan of the new taco's at all...but you never mentioned what year/model/trim yours is...just that you have owned it for 6 months....i can respect the power and driving of my taco and then get in my chevelle and respect the car's power and driving ....but i think the point is you dont respect anything....if you want a truck to handle like a car there is the X-runner/ram srt-10/ford f150 lightning or chevy ssr...if you want a TRUCK then a tacoma is where it is at
