Why did you choose a Tacoma?

I apologize if a similar thread has been posted but anyway. What made you decide on a Tacoma? For me it started out with wanting to get a Jeep 4 door Rubicon, I didn't like the crash ratings or the fact that the 3.8 V6 was a underpowered pos. I love Jeeps but c'mon put something better in the dang thing! Then I went and looked at FJs, the reason I didn't go with one of those is. They are too bulky and feel odd behind the wheel, too many blindspots, and the biggest thing I hated was that you couldn't get a 6speed without having full time 4wd! Which is dumb, anyone know why they do that? Then my friend got a 1987 Mazda B2600 4x4 pickup which got me turned on to compact trucks. Thus that is what made me look at Tacomas. I also looked at the Tacoma's competitors like the Frontier and the Ranger, I hated the looks of the Ranger and didn't like the power/torque ratings for the Frontier. The crash ratings sold me on the Tacoma too, 5 star front, 5 star side, and 4 star rollover. The reviews were great on the Tacoma and I soon found out it was the best selling compact pickup in America and Canada. It is also built in America too which I like, now nobody can give me crap for "not buying American" because my truck was made in Texas! I'm not certain but I think that the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon pickups are all assembled in Mexico. How American are they? Either way I love my truck and glad I made this choice, my dad likes my truck so much that he is thinking of trading his '10 Honda Accord off on one!

 

Best mid-size out there, IMO.

 

I bought mine because it fit my needs. I owned a Tacoma before and didn't have one mechanical problem in 9 years, so I became a repeat buyer.

 

nothing beats the good ol classic mini truck!

I wanted a good, reliable daily driver that i could put my dirtbike in the back...at 25,000 miles when i bought it a couple of years ago and $6000, im going to daily drive the hell out of it for a long long time

 

My last Toyota (88 4Runner) went over 350,000 miles with no major problems and I needed another Toyota V6 4WD...

^This, and price wise, the Tacoma was the least expensive base model out of all the others. Pretty much a no brainer, best quality and cheapest price!

 

This among many other things.

 

Reliability, resale, appearance, envy from everyone who doesnt have one, all good reasons I think!

 

I had an 83 toyota pickup was a great truck. Bought a 97 mustang for some God aweful reason and after 3 yrs wondered why the hell I wasn't in a 4wd. No brainer what I was going to get. 2000 taco was it. I've had this one for 11 years and with the kids I need more room and need a v6 for hauling my trailers. New Taco is in the immediate future. Got to sell my bike and the Taco and I'll have a new 4 door v6 Taco. You can't beat the reliability of Toyota's. I've had 2, my wife has has 2 4runners, and we bought our daughter a new scion tc. We're a Toyota family so why change with all the quality and reliability we've had. Not to mention they look the best of all the trucks out there!

Didn't want a full size truck because:
*dont need full size
*better mileage in mid size
*can fit in garage with wife's Expedition

Other mid size options:

Fontier: Considered one but didn't like nearly as much as Tacoma
Ranger: Do not make a 4 door in US market
Colorado: P.O.S. Have never read even a decent review of the Colorado, have ready many that dog hell out of it.
Dakota: Will probably never purchase a Chrysler product...they have more vehicles on Consumer Reports worst cars than any other manufacturer.

 

Only midsize to offer I-4 & 4wd... and it looks good with the best reviews

 

Way back in 95 my stepson's buddys mommy bought him a beautiful brand new 95.5 Tacoma 4x4 in forest green. I totally fell in love with the then new body style with those cool lines. I always told myself I was going to get one from then on. Then in 2001 me and Rosie stopped by the Toyota dealer one day just to nose around and I saw mine just being rolled off the car carrier. I told Rosie "that's mine" and we went right in to claim it. She didn't even disagree for a second the way our women tend to do when we get all exited about something Her womanly sixth sense even seemed to know that this was a good choice. Best vehicle out of 14 I ever owned.
