do you like the idea of me fabricating a built in basket top?

Looks awesome man! I like the basket idea on top. But I wouldn't put my guns on the pegs, just my opinion though. Guns are going in my truck, too many thieves running around!

Damn, that's looks fucking awesome! Nice job!

Just my opinion, but the pegs are definitely unique. Not what I would have done, but if they work for you then cool. I like the basket idea if it's low profile, and personally I would not use rebar. I think the rebar is ugly and it's quite heavy for what it is. Keeping the rack strong and light will make you happier in the long run I think.

I do like that idea, but it will limit visibility out the back widow even more. I would try to keep it as low-profile as possible.

Hey was your bumper chrome? Did you just sand it down or bead blast it before you painted it?

yeah definitely light weight is good. I threw around the idea of using rebar but actually came across some 1/2" square tubeing i can cut up and use for the basket sides. i have some galvanized steel mesh that im gonna use for the bottom of the basket to keep weight low.

by the way where did you get those c130 tie down rails? i went to my local army navy depot and they dont have anything even close. have any i dea where i could find them?

im gonna try to make the basket sides removable. trying to make this rack as versatile as possible. so i can add and remove stuff as i need it.

so i thought i would show a few pics how i mounted the hellas behind my grill

here i had to trim the edge so i could fit the grille over the metal (metal was to long), also I used the factory bolts that hold the condensor in place, bolts worked well and were long enough to hold the mounting bracket and condensor, made no modifications to the truck to make this work
    IMAG0070_8f1402e04b301acc3ffc6d2146a173d9deb7f2f5.jpg

Had to cut this notch out for the hood latch. It stuck out too far and it pushed my lights out and the stock bolts i used wasnt long enough, so i just cut a notch to make it flush. (you can see i cut all the way through, but it still was strong enough to hold)

    IMAG0073_104e896de0b8196752c97a4ce8814f7bf6c584c5.jpg

lastly, i had to notch these squares out where the grille clips in, simple modification

    IMAG0071_2ba49706d4c1ce0a4a023cf8845781b7a01aa0f3.jpg

    completed product
Note: i used the bolt that holds the hood latch down to ground both lights

No, none of that here in Phoenix. I'm hard pressed to find a puddle in the summer.... which might explain why I couldn't find a boat store around that offered deckplates. As for being able to close it up from the inside, I'd like to make a plug from thick rubber gasket material and insert it from the inside.

Got my 60" Hi-Lift, some rubber quick fists for my axe and shovel and whatever, and of course a little sticker from Sierra Expeditions today. :D I hope I didn't waste my money on getting the 60"... it's a lot taller than I thought it would be!!! haha. I'm sure it'll be of good use when I get my 6" lift and 35's...
Of course, I had to test it out:
