Headers - better mpg?

Has anyone installed DTLT headers on a 4.0L tacoma, and seen a MPG increase? I'm considering them for their slight performance gain, but this would be icing on the cake.

 

I have to disagree with you. Here's why...engine is a air pump, the easier it is for it to inhale and exhale, the more efficient it becomes thus mileage increase. May not be but I would say 1-2 MPG. IMO. And also use high flowing air filter.

 

I agree with Superx2, not only will headers add some HP, but also increase your gas mileage. The easier the engine can breathe (air intake) and exhale (exhaust) the less work the engine is doing and more power you will get. Headers are always the first mod/add on that gear heads do to their vehicles (mostly vintage) for those 2 reasons.

The only thing you need to look out for is if it is 50 state legal. A lot of headers are not. Most "shorty" headers are not smog legal, while most of the longer style ones are. Also you might have to weld a new O2 bung on the header.

 

Ahh, so it would improve MPG? You told the op that it wouldn't. Don't have have time to argue. I know you know what an engine is. All good dude!

 

Guess you've never heard of lighter crank pulleys, high flow airfilters,shorty headers, or banks exhausts

 

haha funny guy here. headers for the 2.7l increased this guys mpg by 4. and on the 4.0s it increases by about 2. he said he wants them for performance but mpg is icing on the cake.

i have the long tube headers and probably lost mpg's when i first installed cuz i got on the gas all the time, now it's about the same as before lol

 

Agree 100% Well put. Yes, you can buy bolt on parts that will increase MPG.

I have a DT header on my 2.7 4x4 along with a magnaflow catback exhaust and afe pro dry filter (secondary filter removed). I did all these mods at the same time. I noticed an improvement in power and top end although I only gained at most 1mpg.

 

If you want power gains get a blower. If you want mpg gains get a scanguage or a prius

I agree with whippersnapper02. This isn't a 30 year old engine where headers/exhaust could net you 20+% more power. Engines today are build very efficient and bolt on modifications typically produce very little power/mileage gains.

wow i must have been doing my mpg wrong all along. what i do is i fill up my tank. if i get 300 miles cool. then i fill it up again and i got 304 bam! thats a mpg increase right there sir.

yes little mpg. but it still helps. the guy is buying them for the SLIGHT PERFORMANCE. he said if its better gas mileage thats icing on the cake. (a bonus)
