2006 Tacoma with Rebuilt Status

Would you guys ever consider purchasing a vehicle with a rebuilt status? I'm really interested in this one as I've been looking all over and couldn't find one I really liked.

If you look at the Accident data how is it possible that the damage claim was over $80,000?

But wow $28,000 damage amount on the Tacoma. Makes me think they should have just scrapped the thing. It looks in great condition now though I'll post pictures.

 

If you can afford to pay cash for it, probably fine. Most lien holders won't touch a rebuilt title.

 

In jersey it's hard to register rebuilt or salvage title cars.they make it very hard like everything else in jersey

Pay a little upfront dough and get it up on a lift with a mechanic you know. If the frame looks good and it runs good, I'd say go for it. Working in the car business, I've seen newer cars scrapped for the dumbest, most fixable reasons. Just be in it for the long haul; it's tough to sell a branded title vehicle. But why would you sell your Taco anyhow?!?!?!?

 

The thing is I'll be buying this vehicle from out of town so I will have to bring it to a mechanic that I do not know. I know that I will be saving $10,000 or so on it so that's why its a tough decision.

 

I would be more worried about taking it to a body shop that can tell me how straight the frame is rather than a mechanic. Or both. But you definitely want to make sure the frame is straight. A bent frame opens pandoras box

 

I would see if you can insure it.

 

For the record... A lot of those reports list the "whole claim" paid by the insurance, which includes the other vehicle, your vehicle, as well as medical.

So if they totaled the truck, figure on $25000 or so there, plus another vehicle, say 30-40 grand, + medical, ambulance rides, towing, storage, estimate fees, etc.

I had an accident in a Nissan that totaled my car, did about $3500 in damage to the Mustang involved, and the listed number on total payout was something like $27000 - I know they paid $17500 for the Nissan, so about $6k in medical was included. They gave me the full breakdown, but I dont remember everything.

 

In the picture looks like the front end is lower is that normal?

 

Off topic but mounties are mainly only for ceremonial purposes. And I rarely ever hear anyone say "aboot", only maybe in Nova Scotia which is just like Texans saying Y'all and such haha

 

I bought my 2006 that had been wrecked and has a rebuilt/salvage title.

I saw the truck when it was wrecked at an auto broker lot. Toyotas happened to be cheap then because of the "sticking accelerator" so I got an even better deal.

I knew the local dealer where I got the truck, and knew the guy who fixed it - you can save a lot of money on a truck like this -
I got a 2006 PreRunner SR5 TRD Sport with 60K miles and saved several thousand $$$$. I have a truck that looks new and I am pleased with it. And since the dealer had a good reputation, the local Credit Union was willing to finance the full amount.

If you deal with established dealers or people you know, you can come out pretty good.
I bought a Honda CR-V about 5 years ago like this - it only had 9K miles on it, and I saved around $10k on it. I still have it and have not had any problems.

This a good way to get a truck you want and save money, I have come out well, but it is not for everyone - keep in mind the Toyota warranty is void.

YES THIS!! I bought a rebuilt-title '97 GMC Sierra not knowing that it had a bent frame because I'd never taken to someone before buying. I didn't notice it until a week or two later when it was parked in a level parking lot and the rear driver's side wheel was much closer to the wheel-well than the passenger's side. A local body shop told me that the frame was bent, even though it had been pulled.

The engine never gave me problems and I never had driveability issues, but I did end up replacing both wheel-seals and the pinion-seal myself, in addition to both rear drum cylinders. I don't think they were related to the bent frame. I ended up selling it a year later because I'd gotten a new job with a commute of 140 miles a day.

 

I never said the RCMP wasn't active. I think what Americans refer to when they say mounties are guys walking around with their goofy red suit with a big brim hat and boots. How often do you see those walking around? In BC I never do unless there is a special occasion or ceremony
